  1. Beautiful scene in Linglestown this morn.. man, this hobby is a constant reminder of how expectations determine perception of events.. yesterday at this time, I was staring to 2.5 inches of fresh snowfall and feeling a bit disappointed.. this morning I go out and measure 2.5 inches of additional snowfall overnight and I’m giddy... my irrational snow-weenie mind on full display the last 24 hours. .
  2. Yea!! High fluff factor, huge flakes for past 20 minutes.. pleasantly surprised. .
  3. For as feast or famine as its felt around here in recent years, this is now the 5th double-digit snowfall for MDT in the last 5 years. Jan 2016 Mar 2017 Mar 2018 Dec 2020 Jan 2021 Not to mention the surprise pre-Thanksgiving storm in 2018 where MDT picked up 9" and we had over 10" here a little further north of Harrisburg prior to sleet onset. Crazy times.
  4. Back to heavy snow in Linglestown, now with wind gusts mixing in..over the 10 inch mark in depth now. .
  5. Yea, the last I read, it was set to become the operational version in early Feb. https://theweatherguy.net/blog/new-gfs-model-coming/
  6. 12z GFS-para is a huge hit for most everyone just to add to the chaos..
  7. Well.. happy hour GFS definitely on board with the capture & stall/prolonged event idea. .
  8. I can't remember the winds ramping up this early in previous major storms, ie grass still showing and its coming down sideways.
  9. 71 degrees just north of Harrisburg right now. Best it’s felt in the late afternoon here in quite some time! .
  10. That is bizarre. Must be due to those tropical bathwaters of Lake Superior and Hudson Bay.
  11. No problem! Admittedly my heart was racing like crazy. For a few minutes I thought the life long bucket list dream of witnessing a tornado touch down might materialize. Also equally worried about my new shingles lol. The best rotation on radar was further north east of Halifax, I'm not sure if anything touched down up that way.
  12. I'm not sure if this will play, but this was from Linglestown as the tornado-warned cell was moving across Dauphin County. IMG-2876.mov
  13. Snowflakes here in Linglestown at the foot of Blue Mountain!
  14. Ahhhh.. just re-reading the Jan 22-23, 2016 thread to lift my spirits in these trying times. What a behemoth. Can not believe that was 4 years ago already.
  15. I went out there last Tuesday after work in the middle of the storm. The roads were terrible but with the warm up on the way, I wanted to try to get one good night on the mountain with the beauty of snow covered trees. Went back yesterday to see how much damage the weekend torch did... rough... i'm counting on another late season resurgence like we've seen in recent years to try to break even on my pass. hoping this weekend is the catalyst to flip the script.
  16. Silver-dollar dendrites in downtown Harrisburg right now. Oh how I missed thee.
  17. Dewpoint sitting at 70 on my station at the moment... Going to enjoy the remaining pockets of peak foliage here in Linglestown for the next few hours, then embrace the ruckus. Good luck all!
  18. Since the official start of fall I've been hanging onto my will to live based upon the 300 hr + forecasts showing the cool down. Have to say, the GFS really nailed the timing of this relief. Consistently showing the front moving down in the 10/3-10/4 time-frame, vanquishing the hell fire. Mid-range forecasting (temp-wise) has come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. Really going to appreciate October feeling like October tomorrow through the weekend. Cheers all!
  19. Phenomenal.. Relied on your site a lot leading up to the storm. Thanks.
