Unexpected snow can sometimes be the best near Wardensville WV

I live near Chesapeake Beach in Maryland, but I’m near Wardensville, West Virginia right now and woke up not expecting any snow. It’s snowing moderately now and the temperature is 10. Ground is starting to get covered. I know it’s not the 20 inches we all hoped for, but at least it’s snowing.

Thanks for clearing that up. I was the thinking it was in 2022 at Canaan. I remembered hearing on the radio that the NWS was trying to verify that the temperature was correct at Canaan, and they ended up settling at -31. Found this article below. Canaan Valley Known for its winter activities like skiing and snowboarding, Canaan Valley in Tucker County expects and even welcomes cold temperatures during ski season. This year, it may have gotten a little colder than anyone would have bargained for. On Jan. 22, 2022, Canaan saw record-breaking temperatures and experienced its coldest ever at -31° F.

I may be wrong, but I think the record was set in that location. It’s in the Canaan National Wildlife Refuge. It’s a natural cold sink and it’s the lowest point in the valley. It’s often 10-12 cooler there than other spots in the valley.

Tomorrow I will be at about 2500 feet in elevation 15 miles west of I 81 and Woodstock Virginia. Does anybody have any thoughts on whether or not I’ll see mixing out here?
