  1. Yup that's basically the norm these days. Makes sense out West and in the kind of pattern we've been in recently but all too often I'll roll up to the hill in November and see hordes of people with these all mountain/powder skis strapped to their feet just lapping firm groomers. I guess that's why its best to have a quiver!
  2. Yeah I was real bummed to hear about it. Didn't know him well at all but the definition of a local legend.
  3. For me the frequency with which I tune is a feel thing and vary ski to ski. Like if my slalom skis stop gripping on glare ice then we have a problem haha. Otherwise a classic rule of thumb for me is I wax about every 5 outings on a particular pair, edges every 10-15 or so and besides that fix core shots and edge burrs as needed.
  4. There's not a lot to it if you want to do it yourself. You'll need a work bench with vices, file, diamond stones, bevel angle/file guide for base and side edges, wax, iron, wax scraper, ptex sticks. Watch a few youtube videos and its quite easy to catch on. I typically only bring my skis into the shop when they need a base grind, otherwise the self tune has always worked fine. It probably won't be as precise as a shop tune, but there's just something about working on your own gear with a beer in hand and the smell of wax in the air.
  5. Very cool. The road leading up to the cabin is one of the steeper class 3 roads I've had the pleasure of driving. Going to be a good test for AWD and snow tires
  6. Nice! I was up on Tracy Hill in Roxbury for the week just down the road from Northfield, leaving tomorrow. Snow starting to pick up ever so slightly here. Should be a fun afternoon! Blocked the afternoon off for important "meetings" at Sugarbush.
  7. For real. Was on Camel's Hump and you could basically make out the Cog on Washington and Superstar at Killington could be seen clear as day. Low 20s and not a breath of wind on the summit while it was 5 below in the lot while we were booting up lol.
  8. Dude!!! So rad. What is the name of the tune that is currently being played??? (If you see this in time). I've seen Club D'elf cover it a good amount of times at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge where they have their residency.
  9. Was back at my old haunts yesterday for my first midweek day on the hill since being an employee three years ago. Sick snow globe feel and nobody around yielded around 3" by last chair. Visited some old favorites and while soft turns were had, we could use another 1-2' of consolidated base before the real fun starts.
  10. Went up to Brandon Gap for the day Saturday and found excellent ski conditions! Depth checks revealed about 20-24" @ 1800' and about 30" at 2900'.
  11. Sweet! Seems as though this latest round has favored southern VT. Been a relative lull up north it seems. Will be skiing in Brandon Gap tomorrow. Interested to see what sorts of depths I find there.
  12. Yeah I've seen those from a distance while skiing Sugarloaf but never took the time to skin over there. They do look sweet though! Are those natural glades? I had always assumed that they were specifically cut or logged at one time. My earlier point was simply that in VT, you can wander into the woods in many places along the spine and more often than not find perfectly spaced maple groves with minimal underbrush that is perfect for skiing. No cutting involved! That is what I've found to be pretty unique there.
  13. The Maine mountains are unbelievable good CAD spots. It seems Saddleback and Sugarloaf even moreso but I'm sure that's just because they average 70" and 50" more per year respectively, thus making it seem amplified. I remember taking an early April midweek trip to the Loaf back in my Sugarbush days when we had rain in the forecast in VT and a slushy 6" of snowpack. My buddy and I are driving NW past Errol NH and the snowbanks start shooting up and the rain turns to snow. Of course we were aware of the forecast and were pow hunting but it was the sheer snowpack at that time of year that surprised me most. For day in day out ski conditions though, nothing can touch VT imo. Pretty sure Jspin touched on this in the past but when you can cover up a cutter with 4" of snow, grooming that in overnight makes a world of a difference. That and the natural tree skiing in VT is far superior, if that's your thing. Lots of schwack in NH and ME.
  14. Saw it was rated as moderate today on that aspect. Do you and your partners have a good amount of experience in avy terrain? Took my AIARE 1 earlier this year and it did a pretty good job of spooking me haha.
  15. The general public that thought that last weekend was the best skiing of the season are going to be in for a surprise when they show up Saturday haha. Its only going to keep stacking up! Now to decide where along the spine to wander into the woods this weekend...
  16. Yup! The hippies from GBA did a great job of clearing out 4 or 5 ski lines for the rest of us hippies to enjoy. Nice area for a hike too! Saw some families snowshoeing. It's high up there too, parking lot at 2k I think? Even noticeably more snow than when you first pull off of 2.
  17. It was definitely solid on Sunday. Top 150 vert or so of the gladed zone could have used some more snow but you can pick your way down no problem. Everything below there was good to go!
  18. Yeah looks like central VT jacked. Bet the snow bowl and Rasta glades were a good time today.
  19. @PhineasC prepare to see a lot of snow. The skiing just up the road from you was pretty damn good.
  20. He'll soon be jamming the hell out of the air guitar to this while being doused in upslope
  21. Man what a strange track on the GFS last few runs. DelMarVA to Poughkeepsie to Ottawa to Millinocket. Gets the job done it seems though
  22. I personally think you do. An upslope signal like that is often $$$ for your area as depicted. I wouldn't be surprised if 75% of the snow out of this is orographic based for you on like 30% of the liquid that comes with it. A right side up storm to get the whole hill more or less in play would be just what the doctor ordered.
  23. 12z euro SSE of 0z at the onset of precip and then gets shunted east quicker. Weenie maps a bit more robust fwiw.
  24. Yeah weird track for sure but a pretty good thump on the front end and then prolonged upslope on the back end so hopefully solid net gainer. Will be checking out the Sherbie this weekend, anyone hear of latest conditions there?
