  1. Been steady light snow here past 10mins.. easily sticking, quickly whitening all surfaces
  2. For our neck of the woods?? At this point, I'm just gonna bank on that front-end.. maybe the dry slot will save us from eating into that 2-4" snowpack from the start lol
  3. ISP does seem to report relatively higher totals compared to other neighborhoods from my experience haha
  4. Virac is the closest synoptic station along the path and may even get very very close to the eye.. hopefully we can get some good data even just the minimum pressure... JMA at 8.0 but I'm very surprised they limited this to 905mb.. was really expecting something 890-900mb from them Also I believe this is the first time that PAGASA has raised Warning Signal #5 in the Philippines... the max used to be #4 but they introduced #5 as a response after Haiyan's monstrous landfall.
  5. Sheeeeesus... looks like a pretty smooth ERC... back to T8.0????? Can only imagine the havoc this will cause along its path.. should weaken to Cat 2/3 by the time it reaches Manila but it's been a while since they were directly hit by an intense typhoon
  6. Japan is the official RSMC in the region so I don't think it's a lack of funding at all.. maybe they just don't see the urgency?? whatever the reason is, it's a real travesty.. this basin produces quite a lot of really interesting cyclones that would be of significance to science.. and not to mention the annoyance of seeing JMA and JTWC constantly under-analyze typhoon intensities...
  7. Just off of exit 61 on the LIE.. now they're saying Saturday at best for power... we didn't have this long of an outage from Sandy...
  8. Wow, that's surprising! Ours have had no power since the storm hit... PSEG saying don't expect it to be back until Friday afternoon. ughh Welcome to the neighborhood!
  9. Have you guys seen that message about the NWS Proposed Changes to the alerts that they use? Basically, getting rid of the "Advisory" messages, among others. I only saw it on the NWS-LOT Page along with the link to the NWS Survey. I've filled it out but I wonder how many are for or against it. Here's the link to the NWS Page (the link to the actual survey is on there). https://www.weather.gov/lot/AdvisoryChange
  10. Malakas went through the Yaeyama Islands earlier this morning (Japan Time) with the center passing right over the small island of Yonaguni-jima... Highest sustained wind speed was 45.1m/s (88kt) and highest gust was 66.8m/s (130kt); both recorded before the eye moved through... lowest pressure was 936.9hPa recorded an hour after... very cool to have such data recorded... shame Basco's and Itbayat's equipment failed just when the eye was going through with Meranti...
  11. Well the 18z report had the pressure jump back up to 983hPa (50hPa jump in 1 hour lol)... 933hPa seems pretty high given the island was under the eye for a moment... maybe it bottomed out in between reports?? also winds down to 64kph and 90kph in Itbayat and Basco, respectively... i'm afraid to see the reports out of there today, home to about 18k people
  12. Itbayat, the island right in the eye, was last reporting N winds at 112mph with SLP at 933hPa...
