I think I've already hit climo down here, despite the dire forecasts from Mets everywhere this winter has been one of the best in the past 10yrs and it's far from over. Another reminder that nobody knows anything on these long range seasonal forecasts. I half expect the climate change narrative to go in full reverse once the PDO finally flips. The pain trade on warming is so piled in on that side at this point that it reminds me of the housing bubble. Temp can only go UP!!!! Buy before it's too late!

1970s...might as well have been the pleistocene. PDO was probably a couple SDs positive in those days.

I'll do one better and make a snow igloo and just sleep in that. Almost died doing that one night as a kid. My friend and I were sleeping in an igloo in his backyard and when we were sleeping his mom decided it would be a good idea to cover the entrance with a trash bag to keep us warmer. I woke up in the night dizzy and hyperventilating, he was unconscious. Luckily I had the sense to bust out of the thing before it was too late.

That gives me pause, I'll believe 17F and heavy snow in SoMD when I see it.

One time about 5-6 yrs ago the JMA was showing warm and he discounted it, probably because he was wishcasting cold. Eventually it became clear the JMA had the right idea and winter was basically over. The meltdown was epic, I literally think he was crying during his Saturday summary video. Ever since then he's showed it major respect.

He was saying that if the JMA is correct that we were going into the warm phases around the end of January and thought it would linger there for some time in February. Not sure he predicted it was for sure going to happen but moreso *if* the JMA is correct. He does seem to put a lot of stock in the JMA when it comes to MJO predictions.

Uh oh, JB would be exonerated.

I think about 1.5" in Huntingtown. Good enough to make everything look fresh again.

Models seem to be juicing up a bit for the Saturday snow. I'm predicting an overperformance.

I remember waiting at the bus stop in 8th grade playing football before the bus arrived - when it was -21F outside and -40F wind chills. School wasn't cancelled for that...this was in Michigan though. Had to drive uphill to get to and from school in the those days.

To be fair he's basing that off the JMA forecasting phases 4/5. Assuming the JMA is right I agree with him that it'll be hard to overcome that hostile a regime. Maybe we get something big just as it flips, or maybe the JMA is wrong and it doesn't flip. We'll know in a couple weeks.

JB says MJO flips and goes hostile for the East in wks 3/4 and stays that way through February. Looks like winter's almost over. With some luck I'll get to climo if I can get another inch or so out of this weekend event.

Found this old pic of my wife looking less than enthusiastic after we completed shoveling 29" of snow off our driveway by hand in dec-2009. We were both 29yo then....didn't have a snowblower. Even using one for this latest storm was exhausting for the foot of snow we got, now being 44yo. Can't imagine how we did that three times in the winter of 09/10 for 2ft snowfalls.

GFS looks like a jack the same places that got it for this last storm. "It snows where it wants to snow"
