Pingers. 

Getting skimmed in babylon. Heaviest rain since June. 

Underwhelming in west babylon. But it was heavy for a bit. No measurement but I’d guess maybe .5

Yup. I live by belmont park. The trees hanging on. Probably ground water at the lake.

We had two rounds of 5-10 minute rains... The second being hardest... actually saw lightening and thunder!

Easily the wettest night since early June!

Up to about 3.25" since June 1st..!

I heard the thunder as I was waking up around 6. But it was in the distance

At least your area made a turnaround. Grass is pretty resilient and can bounce back after periods of being dormant. What I’m noticing out here on the island for areas that haven’t had any rain is the tree damage seems most severe in man made locations. For example parkway ramps. Ground water is gone in those locations. However when you look at undisturbed forest there is still enough ground water left for the trees to be hanging on.

In my area we have had like half an inch of rain since July here on the south shore

lots of  trees are wilting and dropping leaves. I can’t remember last time I saw this.

I read complaints about less than 1" rain fall--parts of the e 2/3rd LI and near I78 in NJ.  Everyone else had 1+ with many reports 3-5" ne PA-nw NJ se NYS-CT.  The region nw of NYC is the important part for NYC drinking water.  Overall, I think the modeling did VERY well attempting to highlight general rainfall, including MAX 7-10" and the bands as Bluewave and others pointed out.  1970--- that wouldn't be happening. 

 

Lawns (Cone Flowers)--not critical.  

Droughts are natural processes and so they exert stress but if we manage... we get through it.

 

I've attached, for what it's worth ,the NYC Reservoir system which as of 9/6 was 11% below normal.  Today and tomorrow it will be less below normal as it continues to pour in parts of these reservoir areas as well as heavier rains getting ready to spread southward for a few hours from e PA and extreme northern NJ into west central NJ,  before fading tonight.

I’ll be up in Delaware county this November. We hike the creek that feeds the reservoir up there.

Lots of trees in my neighborhood have been wilting and some already losing leaves. Major drought stress. We missed all the thunderstorms in my area. I’m honestly really worried. The .5 we got yesterday could have no way made it to the roots. Hoping the trees took water in from the leaves if that’s even a thing. I’m worried for them. We need a soaking rain and fast. 

Can’t imagine the .5 I got yesterday penetrated down to any roots. Drought lives on 

Not nearly enough on south shore. The blob missed us.

Maybe nam and hrrr will meet in the middle and south shore gets in on that. Radar looking better.

the trees have massive drought stress and are wilting. Hoping this does it. 

I’d say 2” is a sure shot in SW Suffolk right now. Nice to see 

Never been so excited for rain. 

If south shore LI escapes this we are screwed

For my area of NJ I'll be happy if EURO comes close to verification.  Anything less than 2" and I'll be grossly disappointed.  Very slow moving in that is for sure.  Daylight hours today for majority of NJ, except far NW will end up being dry.  Was expecting much more shower activity today than what has verified so far.  Need rain badly but not nearly as bad as south shore LI, you guys have just been in the worst of the dryness.

Can’t remember the south shore ever being this bad. The trees are turning brown and wilting the past couple weeks in my neighborhood. Cannot be good.
