  1. I hope the storms pan out for us too. We really need the rain. We were in a dry gap with last week's storms and probably has been a month or more since we received significant rainfall in Hillsborough. I saw the MIllstone River near Griggstown was a peculiar shade of bright green on Saturday, and later saw an online article that there is toxic algae bloom. It actually is a bacteria and not algae. I presume the heat and lack of rain have help cultivate that and believe a strong rain will flush it out.
  2. Was wondering if we would get there todayl
  3. We hit 98 here yesterday. 3 years ago today my somewhat accurate weather station hit 100 for what is the only time that I recall. I presume that could be passed on Sunday. Dry spell has been brutal on plants and lawns. All the lawns are brown and dormant here unless irrigated. The rains of several days completely missed this part of Somerset Cty. I was watching the maps and hoping for rain but we were in a persistent gap with the cells going north and south of us. My raspberries and tomatoes are wilting and I pulled out the sprinkler yesterday evening. I will water other parts of garden this evening.
  4. major gust about 15 minutes ago. House made a big cracking sound. Ugh
  5. 44 degrees here. Gave the cars the first good wash since probably Nov. It was near 60 degrees this afternoon with brine trucks running on the major roads. A bit of a peculiar site.
  6. light flakes started 30-45 mins ago. Cars and shaded pavement getting coverage. 31F
  7. Central NJ still seems a wildcard - as well as the western cutoff? Supposed to head out to Harrisburg tomorrow morning. Wondering how bad it will be at home and how far west will have to deal with it on the drive.
  8. First wave of light snow started within last 30 minutes or so. 29F and roofs, roads, cars all covered in a white dusting.
  9. I keep getting sucked into checking updates...hoping to see high amounts while not thinking about how it screw my weekend travel plans.
  10. I always wondered that. Just like in the hurricane areas of Florida. What do people do with all the plywood (window coverings) after the storm?
  11. First time I felt the need to go to the basement about an hour ago when Rocky HIll reported a tornado. Just sat on the porch for last 20 mins. The amount of rain falling is incredible.
  12. Snow coming down hard here for last 30-40 minutes. Sticking to cars but not road surface as they had been salted heavily in the past few days.
  13. Went to get the mail an hour ago and misting - putting a glaze on the areas of road that had been plowed. There is better traction on the unplowed surfaces. Temp is 26F.
  14. Just headed out to measure. 5.5 inches so far today. Still snowing - albeit at a slower rate than earlier this morning.
  15. It has been coming down very heavily since onset. My guess is approx 4" already. Will measure in a bit. 31F currently
  16. i measured just over 17" last night and got another inch overnight. Compaction from sleet likely in play. I cleared about 3" Sunday night. Then those same areas equaled the 17" inches I measured in other areas which had not been cleared Sunday night. So, I guess we go with the 18" total. 17" last night plus one inch last night. Pretty good hit.
