Jan 31 - Feb 1 Snow/Sleet/Misery Obs & Disco

Surprised about that last GFS run....Wonder if this is a sick joke and we get a late Charlie Brown'd -
Your punishment for being a Bengals fan and moving to Baltimore, and your team beating us in the playoffs is a lack of snow!

January/February Mid/Long Range Disco IV: A New Hope
Baltimorewx replied to stormtracker's topic in Mid Atlantic
What happened to my 27 inches of digital snow on last nights GFS Happy hour run? Ooof...Everything just wants to amplify a little too much. -
Ill do one better...roads in Dundalk are brined...
-
I saw that on his FB lol, I commented. He's talking about the speed/timing but the placement of that nose of WAA precipitation is what is key. The timing and placement kind of go hand in hand.
-
Yep end of run but HRRR kind of outlines my post above
-
Need the initial WAA nose of precip to just trend a little south so all of us can get in on an hour or 2 of initial snow before inevitable rain. Sometimes models can be off with placement of this so maybe there is hope but as of now most of the modeling takes this nose north of the PA line
-
Right, agreed..I am just saying from an overall standpoint, I dont think the modeling has trended colder. The GFS is just going with a heavier burst and more QPF than most of the other modeling so in turn you get that Evap cooling a bit more and the better snow map looks. Im not really buying it personally but folks along the PA line can maybe squeeze out a slushy inch
-
Eh not really..from what Ive seen the GFS has just been trending a bit more accumulated precip which in turn is making the snow maps look a little better over the last 24-48 hrs of runs
-
Yep, If I see flakes falling Ill call it a win. Late Sunday afternoon with a few flakes in the air while watching football would do since pretty much nothing yet
-
I understand to a point where this guy is coming from but this is not just an NFL problem...This is a problem of society and throughout corporate America and jobs. Emergency responders are grossly underpaid in many cases and it is a dangerous job and same situations. Construction workers, etc...These guys don't HAVE to play football...they often get an education that is free as well. I understand the NFL makes a godly amount of money and can have better policies in regard to taking care of players/former players but this can be said in all walks of life imo
-
Haha, love them still, but they have made their bed with this offense and Lamar
-
Yep, as a Ravens fan, I honestly dont care a lot though because the way they have been playing on offense and likely still no Lamar Jackson, they are losing 1st round regardless unless the defense can somehow play lights out which I doubt in playoff football.
-
I am sure they want to play the game but the issue is when and how. This could not have happened at a worse time in the season. The only option I see is pushing all the playoffs back a week which would eliminate the 2 week break in between championship games and Super Bowl....but the NFL loves their media week so I dont know. This also would potentially create an unfair advantage as all playoff teams would have a week off except Bills-Bengals.

Gotcha. This was bottle from the brass tap in Towson. Good, but they had goose island bourbon county on draft. Despite peoples opinions on it, I love the goose island bourbon county stuff

December 22-23, 2022: Warm Rain to Arctic Chill
Baltimorewx replied to WxUSAF's topic in Mid Atlantic
Yeah I have some flakes falling but just little tiny pixie dust blowing in the wind. Nothing that would accumulate even if it were cold enough. I think I am at 33 now -

Looks like some tiny flakes mixing in here in Dundalk now, wind is pretty fierce. -

That likely diminshes a bit though as it comes east of the mountains and the low is continuing to pull way N of us. The wildcard for sure though as far as flash freeze is how much precipitation does occur along and with this front -

Right but I still think that is more of an issue for the N&W folks with increasing elevation...Flash Freeze stuff is a bit rare around the metros/low elevations as we normally dry out before temps tank enough. I know this one is impressive with the arctic front though. Do I think there will be icy patches where still wet? Yeah, do I think its some massive freeze? No, but this will probably be a bigger deal, potentially much bigger for increasing elevation folks. But also even just the smallest coating of snow acting as an icy base I think would exponentially make the potential worse -

Looks like the GFS is finally coming to its senses and backing down a bit on the amount of precip/change to snow along/behind the front for the metros/low elevation areas. -

Doesnt the GFS have the tendency to leave too much precipitation behind arctic fronts and also be a little too strong with cold pushes? Its being consistent but I find it hard to believe we'll be 19 degrees at 1PM. I buy a quick burst of snow for the N&W elevation areas but Im pretty skeptical a bout the metros and low lands cashing in on much of a changeover -
The issue initially isnt the dewpoint. You seem to be focused on that. Dewpoint doesnt effect preciptation types. Warm noses do.
