  1. What do you think the roads will be like? Got a bunch of people skiing sat morning and didnt think this storm was going to be a big deal.
  2. Haven't lost power in Western MD (yet). But we have lost pretty much all our snowpack. Need a refresher asap.
  3. A whole bunch of NOAA websites are offline this morning, anyone know why? NOAA Physical Sciences Laboratory https://psl.noaa.gov/ NOAA Global Monitoring Laboratory https://psl.noaa.gov/ NOAA Earth System Research Laboratories https://www.esrl.noaa.gov/ NOAA Chemical Sciences Laboratory https://csl.noaa.gov/ Global Systems Laboratory https://gsl.noaa.gov/
  4. Bills didn't adjust. KC was jumping the sneak up the middle all game. At some point your coordinator needs to see that and call something outside. Or change your cadence and get them offside. Not sure why they went for two so many times. The first time I was shaking my head. Didn't work for the Ravens and the Bills were chasing points the rest of the game going for two. 0/3 I think? Bills D was gassed at the end, looked defeated after the failed 4th down at the end. Again, not sure what the BIlls called on that 4 and 5.. #10 was running into the backfield and totally out of the play. At that point its 11 on 10 and they completely wiffed on the blitz.
  5. I don't think there really is a source. Its trial and error. I don't walk out there unless I see tents and snowmobiles. The ice fishers will normally drill holes while they walk further out to get a read on how thick the ice is. This guy explains it pretty well: The ice isn't uniform either, so any sort of "report" would have to be very specific and updated. With the snow it makes it even worse because the snow actually insulates and there is a layer of slush under the snow and over the ice. Edit to add another video that shows different tools and explains the whole snow/ice/slush/ice layering:
  6. snow is personal. superbowls are just a thing. My kids can't run around in the lombardi.
  7. Anyone else ready for a thaw and salt/crud wash? I'll probably get laughed at on this forum but I'm ready for a couple days of above freezing and maybe a good rain to wash all the crud out. I love snow but not sure I could live full time in the Northern Midwest states.
  8. Its been a snowy January in western md. Skied early this morning before the crowds got crazy and got back home before the roads went to crap. Haven't seen roads this bad in a couple years up here. Not looking forward to the artic cold this week though.
  9. I'm up at Deep Creek this weekend and we are getting hammered too. 3-4" so far? Awesome skiing. Roads are a mess though and lots of out of towners with FWD all seasons finding out the hard way.
  10. Are ratings down though? These leagues dont care as long as the money and eyeballs keep coming in. Along with all the sports betting money. Multiple people watching with me said hand them the lombardi now, no point playing the next two games. People still watch WWE so i guess there is a market for scripted sports.
  11. Pixie dust snow falling in Western MD. Deep Creek Deck Pic:
  12. Whats the 10:1 map look like? I feel like everyone was using Kuchera or whatever map gave the most snow. I've rarely seen high ratio snows in central MD. Looking at the euro precip map, most of MD is in a .5-.75" band. To me, that tracks with what we've seen. I've got over 6" in Howard County and its still snowing.
  13. Maybe 2" in ellicott city? Are we gonna get hosed?
  14. Thats always a concern when they get the deathband and it dries us out 30 miles south. Just gotta hope it sets up right and we can cash in too.
  15. The GRAF model he showed looked really close to the latest UKMET. Not sure who produces that model or if its something internal.
  16. Tommy T on WBAL11 is hugging the GRAF model. 3-6 in MD, 6-9 DC south, 12" down near fredericksburg.
  17. If i remember my history correctly this is how the civil war started.
  18. Oh theres a couple in that thread.. especially the two lettered one from leesburg.
  19. Everyone snorted the NAM cocaine and will be disappointed when we don't get 18" of non digital snow.
  20. Remember when the JMA nailed that big storm back in 09/10? Yea, blind squirrel..
  21. I think a lot of these snow maps are overdone based on the sleet/fzrn potentials. Feeling like 3-4" on a front end thump to snizzle is our low bar for the dc area. If the cold can hang on or get some coastal enhancement, those numbers can bump up. Probably some lollys in the favored higher elevation areas. The good news is whatever falls will be sticking around for awhile! Also the mountains look to cash in regardless, so we have options
  22. There was a chance our return flight back into BWI was going to get cancelled because they were still digging out the runways. Everyone else I was with was excited we might get an extra day. Torture, thinking of all that glorious snow getting packed down and consolidated.
  23. I was forced to go on a trip to Aruba during the 2016 blizzard. It still hurts.
  24. Well tell him thanks! I know its not an easy job and he probably deals with a bunch of pain in the butt fools daily. The point n clicks vary but seem highest up in McHenry. JonJon land looks to cash in the most. As long as there is enough for the kids to sled a bit and throw some snowballs I will be happy.
