My parents stopped by last night on their way to snowbird in Florida, and they stayed at a hotel in Springfield. Instead of waiting out the storm, they headed out at 7:30 am in hopes of being on the road before the worst of it hit. They're now stopped on 95 near Fredericksburg. My Dad is an old pro at driving in all weather (and he's a weather geek, as well), but he made a really bad call on this. He said they're stopped because of jackknifed tractor trailers on the exits.

Just watching radar, but I do notice that the returns started pressing back north a little. Bob's post makes sense, as well, in that as the storm gains latitude it'll help beat back the cutoff. Sucks for you guys up north, but you know you'll eventually get yours.

Dry air is really pressing hard. It's honestly making me a little nervous.

Easily...EASILY the best rates since 2016 in Burke.
-
Pounding in Burke right now.
-
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they close. The snow makes a tough decision about absences due to illness a little easier. I admit...I looked at it when I woke up and saw the yellows and oranges.

Burke: Measured 3.5" on the deck railing about 10 minutes ago. Heavy snow now - houses about 100 yards away are hardly visible.

I'm a little annoyed that the color of the sky and the trees here in Burke makes it so that I can hardly tell it's snowing. It's all just milky white out there. Just a little annoyed. It's awesome otherwise.

Let at least some of today's snow stick around until Friday and give me snow on snow.

DCA will probably report 1.9" when other reports from less than a couple miles away are in the 7-9" range.
-
What's most awesome is that the snow is obscuring the view of the moss on my neighbors' roof. Seriously...it looks like they live in a hobbit hole.

While most of us in our general area have been relatively screwed in the last couple years, you folks in the easter, lower areas on the "other side" of the fall line have been particularly effed in that time. Glad to see you guys cashing in hard!

Man...that cutoff is just brutal. As WxUSAF said, that could pay huge dividends for those of us not far south of the cutoff, but I feel for the folks north of it.

Is that a gRaViTy WaVe just to the SE of Fredericksburg?
-
Street is now completely white and accumulating. Flagstone walkway now caving, as well. Completely white landscape with snow sticking to trees and moderate snow.

Just a reminder for folks reporting obs: Many of us are browsing on mobile and/or hide signatures, which means we have no idea where you’re reporting your obs from. It’s nice to know who’s reporting what from where!

0.5” with rates picking up in Burke. Road has just started to cave.

While I’m not sorry for you having been in PR for the last week or so, I do feel for you having to watch this from afar. At least it’s not a KU!
-
I’m thinking the 16” or so the 12km NAM just dropped on us. Go big or go home.

We got the text. Happy it’s happening!

Is that a double closed-contour vort at 500?
-
Would love to, but the parents stopped by on their way to snowbird down in Florida. Maybe next time!

Ah shit…I have PI Planning this Tuesday and Wednesday. Only good thing is that my scrum masters will be taking the reins for my dev teams this time around (with my guidance), whereas I used to handle it all for my team of 30. The Friday deal is going to be all over the guidance until 48-72 hours out. As long as we remain in the game, it’ll make this week much more bearable.

I was going to say…there’s nothing keeping this storm from racing to the NE. With the current look, I think someone could get 8-10 hours of good snow, but not what we usually think of as a really big one. Maybe like a 6-8” event, which would be awesome, but not a truly big boy.

It’ll absolutely be a lot of work, but it’s a neighborhood-oriented team and would be a lot of fun.
