  1. I need @MN Transplant to share with me right about now.
  2. I've never dealt with thieving squirrels as much as I have this year. They're absolutely killing my tomato harvest. I've been liberally sprinkling the plants with cayenne powder and covering the fruits with very fine mesh bags. That's slowed them down a little, but unless there's a ton of cayenne on them, they still rip the damn fruits and bag off.
  3. Would be nice to see what their initial call was. I'm sure it's easy enough to find, but when showing a graphic like this it's best to not just tell the reader that there were changes, but actually to show what the changes were.
  4. I've been in and out, but mostly in. I just figure that mid-90s is fairly pedestrian heat for early August around here. Gotta say...it seems the new roof we had installed last fall is making a big difference this summer. The better roof alone helps, but the ridge vents have to be making a huge difference.
  5. Is it really that terribly hot?
  6. 3km NAM goes CAPE crazy and drops some storms around dinnertime today. It's the NAM. What can go wrong?
  7. Zero expectations = Zero disappointment
  8. Good thing the Euro has become a shite model.
  9. But it's only a general 2-4" of rain over the next 15 days across the area!
  10. 6.6" of snow at DCA. Bring it!
  11. There have been plenty of low single-digit snows in the area going back over 100 years, so a 10.5" winter in DC from 70 years ago might not be significantly different today. Or it could be, but there's no reason to assume that it would.
  12. I hope you get a wedge through your front yard. Pulling for ya, man.
  13. Before I even looked down after PSU's post, I knew Maestrobjwa would be the first reply and that it would be another lamentation on how horrible this winter will be. Everyone quoting him has proven that out for me.
  14. RemindME! 10 Days "How violent did the beginning of August get?"
  15. Very sub-severe IMBY, which is no surprise since we very rarely see actual severe here, but I'm always happy for a good rain this time of year!
  16. Good rains, no wind, occasional crack of thunder, grass drinking for the first time in a week.
  17. Expecting some decent rain (which is honestly all I care about), but the radar looks pretty impressive...much like it did a week or so ago when we just got rain with a brief gust of wind.
  18. I guess mid-level clouds all morning didn't matter all that much. Good calls all around.
  19. Good stuff! You can definitely tell when kids have been working hard, and those side lessons really can help. Glad that you got your gig out of the way early. You could see some of the second shift folks struggling at our meet. My girl dropped nearly two seconds off her free and back (which she says she hates) - good enough for 7th and 6th, respectively. She absolutely killed her backstroke turn, which is what got her the first place in her heat. For a kid who has nary a competitive bone in her body, she does a damn good job in the pool! Eight kids and a top seed in All Stars is amazing! We have four kids in (two will be swimming two strokes), none of which are major surprises; however, our 9-10 girl made it in as the 18th kid in IM (she's also in Breast), which was surprising because her swim definitely wasn't her best. I'll probably go to watch some of their swims and to just experience All Stars.
