  1. You've only heard? Oh...we know who those parents are already. I've already been called unprofessional by one. With a small team that pulls almost fully from our 500-home (townhomes and single-family homes) HOA, we mostly know each other really well, so most douchiness is held in check because they don't want to be dicks to their friends and neighbors. Sometimes people just cant help it though. We just roll with the punches when it does happen...
  2. Exactly. My guess is that by this fall we could well see a more Omicron-focused shot, which would be helpful, though I agree about how it appears that the effects of these subvariants are much less harmful (but unfortunately still harmful enough for many). Follows the general trend of how novel viruses work though - incredibly potent, then new variants pop up, and eventually you get more variants that "like to" infect but not kill their hosts.
  3. Big time. Like...way big time. It's scratching that major competitive itch that's been bothering me since I last played soccer about eight years ago. As an athlete through college it's been tough to give up playing anything remotely competitively (due to an ankle injury), so getting involved in summer swim is a really good outlet for me. And I guess it's good to help the kids, too.
  4. That's awesome! It's great that you're getting involved and (I assume) passing on your love of swimming to the younger kids! We have our interested teenage swimmers coach the Juniors (mostly 3-5 year-olds) with an adult overseeing the Juniors program as a whole. Some kids just jump in and help the 8&Unders, but in general our three coaches will handle everything. Despite having an even smaller team than normal (), I'm really excited for this season because we have a returning coach (swimmer at ODU who's planning to coach as a career) and a parent of 8&Us who was a 4-year D1 swimmer and who coached for years until taking a break. I have a feeling our young team will improve a LOT over the season!
  5. You never know...it may have helped. Most everyone I know who have been vaccinated (and most boosted) had few, if any, problems when they caught COVID recently. I also know one or two who weren't vaccinated and only got slightly sick, as well. Sorry to hear that though. Hope you fell better soon!
  6. Absolutely! I have to man the swim team table (bake sale and just general info for new families), but I'd have gone to hang out anyway. Who are you coaching? Aren't you still part of a summer team?
  7. I feel like post-cell stratiform rain usually does well around these parts.
  8. I hope the next DC-area wedge destroys your home!
  9. I really hope there are a few females and males who were late to emerge, but don’t get eaten and are able to make babies this year. Unlikely, but I hold out hope!
  10. Someone is going to be a little lonely this summer:
  11. Saw the first lightning bug of the season on a neighbor's lawn at about 8:00 pm last night...
  12. We have a Mourning Dove nest on our covered propane heater that’s stored outside against our back wall. No pro allem for us because we won’t be using it for another five months, at least, but I love how these birds make the best of what we give them!
  13. No one will survive, especially with the 70s following next week.
  14. I think what we should do is forecast on our own, and ignore everything SPC says.
  15. DCA: 100 IAD: 103 BWI: 102 RIC: 102 I think I went relatively lower last year, but I think we'll really bake once or twice.
  16. Heavy rain and the slightest wind. Burke severe at its finest!
  17. They didn't close school early here, but my daughter is home and it's definitely not sunny.
  18. Pretty sure last year we had about 70 kids who had times in A Meets. Of those, I'd say that five or six were one-timers who we just needed to fill a lane, and there were probably another five or so mostly younger kids who never swam in an A Meet. We're really light in certain age groups, especially 15-18 girls and 13-14 boys. Our neighborhood does skew young, as a lot more young families have been moving in during the last 5-10 years, so this makes sense, but it sucks when you get to relays and you have to just give away points because you don't have enough kids to field a relay.
