  1. Not sure if it was the same system, but I remember an event in the 80s that was a decent rain that preceded a cold front, but as the front came through it dropped a few inches of squall-ish snow. Temps plummeted and things froze over rock-solid. It was pretty cool because we were able to play ice hockey on the huge frozen puddle (like 50 yards x 50 yards) near the creek in the park around the corner from my house.
  2. Sorry…but you’re not going to convince me that DCA is a fair representation of the weather that takes place generally outside of downtown DC and the immediate urban-ish areas of Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax Counties.
  3. And not only that, but the timeframe of interest leads right into Christmas. Even a small glacier that would cause Santa to slip off my roof and bust his ACL would be cause for celebration.
  4. Exactly the same in Fairfax County. The kids are in school until June 16 as it is, so extending the year would be incredibly disruptive. On topic: Yay freezing ran and sleet.
  5. Very interesting to see the trend in colder temps at the surface and even at 850 as the day progresses on Thursday. 850s don't matter in the end in my neighborhood, but it's definitely neat to see.
  6. Same in Fairfax County. Really wouldn't make any sense in the grand scheme of things. Funny how when I was a kid it was all up to the individual schools - public or private - to make the call on whether to have a snow day!
  7. It does, but we (I) could use some sun.
  8. That's OK. I'm not going to worry about the details of the Canadian at Day 10. Strom? Check. Cold air flooding into North America? Check. All good for now.
  9. I'm really surprised that you're taking the pessimistic route.
  10. I was looking at that, and I could tell that something was amiss, but I honestly don't have the skillz to really identify - and especially explain - the hows and whys things happen the way they do. I found it interesting that there were two storms nearly back to back, whereas previous runs squashed that initial wave. Again...I think I know why that happened, but my explanation would probably suck.
  11. I actually think we're on the way up again. There's a storm with tons of moisture and a lot of cold air around. The potential is there, which I think is something we should be cautiously excited about.
  12. And then it rains on us for Christmas. That's more likely. Basically it does the same thing as 18z yesterday, except it's 24 hours later and without the snow.
  13. Delay for slop. Just like schools.
  14. Miller A icefest. Somehow I don't think it goes down like that.
  15. Fairfax County gets five actual snow days. Any days beyond that will be synchronous virtual learning days (two-hour delays). It would be suck if the kids were to get a day off for some mixed bullshit, but I honestly don't see that happening. maybe a delay, but definitely not a day off.
  16. Unless that thing gets squashed, then Amity is in for a smashing.
  17. But it finds a way to get a storm rolling in Texas/the Gulf at nearly the same time as it did yesterday. Good patterns somehow find a way...
  18. There's a vort that drops down the California coast and ends up in about the same spot as our vort did at 18z yesterday, but things look different up top. Lots of confluence, cold air is getting established, and then things get their act together along the Gulf...
