Good thing about the heat on the weekend is that I can be at the pool all day...until it's too hot.

2010-2011: IAD: 12.6" DCA: 10.1" BWI: 14.4" Fell just short of 100".

Gotcha. Figured you'd get tagged for it, and good stuff on being able to see your daughter swim and then be done with the first session! I'll be there from minute 1 to the end, of course. The pool we're at has a lot of shade, so hopefully we'll get some relief. My girl is swimming free and back, so I'm really happy that she doesn't have to sit around or leave and come back. We also have our end-of-season party that night. It's a good time, but it's going to be steamy. Agreed on the end of the season being bittersweet. I'm not going to know what to do with myself for a few weeks, and I know it's going to have me in a bit of a funk. I'm already thinking of off-season stuff to do...

Congrats! Everyone's situation is different, of course, but here are some of my general takes: Tackle projects one at a time, whether you DIY or have a contractor do them Agree on Kay's lawn suggestion - just keep it decent and your neighbors should be fine If you have trees around, regularly check your gutters for clogs / get gutter guards Make upgrades based on your likes, not on a desire for recouping or making profit on the cost of the upgrade Don't get a pool (personal take!) I'm sure there are plenty more, but these are the ones that popped into my head for now...

Wow...you mean we're going to see temps around 100? Never would have imagined! Joking aside, sitting at Divisionals for six our so hours this Saturday might kind of suck. At least I don't really have to *do* anything except cheer for the kids. And eat. @H2O...you timing this weeknd?

Been a bit of a letdown IMBY the last few days. Thunder closing the pool, but very little rain is kind of annoying.
-
Doesn't look like it's gonna happen.
-
Might be opening again...
-
Looking like the gap is closing. If it rains a couple inches tonight then I can probably hold off on the drought thread until the weekend.

Need those storms to hold together for later. Missed most of the rain over the last few days, so I'm worried about the streambeds drying up.

2022 Mid-Atlantic Severe Wx Thread (General Discussion Etc)

SW corner of the meso. I know what that means... -
Thanks for the really encouraging words. That all really puts things into perspective, especially the part about your girls and not being able to ever take away the fact that they went to all stars. While it would have been nice to see the girls swim, my co-Rep and one coach are the moms of two of the four girls, somit only made sense for me to defer! I saw the results and noticed you guys did well. It must feel awesome to come out nowhere and surprise some of those teams, especially if they’re as douchey as it sounds!
-
It was bad? Our 8&U girls were quite overwhelmed and...I honestly think they didn't swim terribly well because of it. We never get invited to these parties (well...we usually have a few at individual All-Stars each year), so we had no idea what to expect. My co-rep was there with two coaches and our girls, and I wouldn't have been any help to them anyways.

Wife and I were surprised when that little storm came through last night. Basically just heavy rain and a little thunder, but a nice surprise nonetheless. -
August warm-up likely ahead?

Didn't come near to severe yesterday, but got that orange sunset that turned to purple. I guess that's a win -

Agreed. I was pretty pumped, but I noticed that there wasn’t much thunder as the line approached. That dampened my enthusiasm a little. I’ll take the rain though…and it’s looking like we might stay in it for a bit as that train develops to the west. -

Radar looks super impressive for MBY, but it’s pretty much a garden-variety storm. Decent rain, a little breeze, and the occasional lightning strike. -

I'm always dubious of being on the SW edge of any outlook category. -
Yup - barely any rain during the meet, then it started coming down just as we finished. It was about the most weather-comfortable meet we’ve ever had! First loss of the season. We had a really rough start of the meet, but it we at least finished strong. Some of our kids really struggled today, and we were dealing with some serious teen drama that probably cost us 15 points . No matter…we had some young kids step up and do their part (including swimming way up in the relays)! All in all, it might be better if we end up coming in second and don’t move up too much!

No thanks on 4-7" of rain. I'll take 3" if I have to, but even then it's pretty inconvenient. -
I don't know...we swim teams in D13 up to D10 in B Meets, and they have much bigger and deeper teams than we do (we also have have our closest neighbors - D14 and D15 - who are great to swim with). I just don't want to run into a situation in which we can pick up a few wins in meets, but most races are sweeps or multi-places for the other teams. And then there's the dreaded inability to fill a relay! Unless we can build the size of our team, we'll almost always struggle against teams in anywhere above D14. We're going to try to bring some more kids in for next year just so we can be a little deeper and be able to fill lanes when kids are out for vacation or something, but that's much easier said than done. Sounds like yours is a quaint place to hold a meet! I'm sure some of the other pools you compete against are bigger and more modern, but it has to feel good to be able to say that you've gotten where you are despite all that's going against you. And as for the top 3 teams...they're on another planet. They might as well break off and form their own small league because at this point they're never going to drop out of D1. We had some nice capital improvements this year. They were well overdue, but we have a new board (that I'm apparently a part of now that I'm a rep ) and manager that are getting sh*t done. We do have a nice pool though - especially compared to some others we've been to in the last couple years - and I feel very grateful for that. Decent size to hold a good crowd and good views from our upper deck and the terraced seating area under the trees. We have a great place to host divisionals and other bigger events, particularly with the VRE parking lot just up the block. That's awesome to hear that you guys have done your part to help Edsall stay afloat. It's got to be tough for the kids who want to swim, but if they don't have the interest, membership, and/or infrastructure to do it then I agree that their days may well be numbered.
