  1. Mentally preparing for H5 maps that look good for us but end up flipping us to sleet on Sunday morning, followed by day-long snizzle.
  2. I swear to God...if MN posts radar screengrabs of the correlation coefficient while this storm is going on, I'm going to find his house and egg it, then I'm going to pelt it with iceballs.
  3. You might be. You at least have a place where you can go to experience winter weather during any of the colder months.
  4. I'm starting to run out of steam for this one. The changes over the last 48 hours have been almost too much, and even with this massive high and super cold we're still looking to take one squarely on the chin with sleet/freezing rain. Too many headfakes, too. I'm just worn out. Hoping against hope that the new flight data somehow helps us, but at this point I don't think I should be holding my breath.
  5. I don't expect the site to go down or anything, but just in case it does, I created a subreddit (r/mid_atlantic_weather) a couple years ago for spillover in case we need a place to chat. It's not a replacement for this forum, and it doesn't even have any posts in it . It's just an emergency landing place in case we need it!
  6. Hope you guys can get more folks together! I have dance dad duty on Thursdays or else I'd try to make it...
  7. There are some really dumb people posting in the main thread. I'm dumb, but I'm not posting there much.
  8. Much prefer this kind of solution where we worry less about taint. It's nice to have even the GFS losing the more wound up solution in the face of what some other guidance has pumped out this afternoon. Might it be out to lunch? Sure, but it's at least showing that the possibility is there of things relaxing just a bit and we end up with cold smoke.
  9. Fairfax County schools are closed next Thursday and Friday for end of quarter/teacher workday, and some elementary schools (including my daughter's) are on early release on Wednesday, so we're preparing for them to be out all week. While Wisp is going to be cold AF late next week, it'll be kind of nice driving there with wintry scenes the whole way!
  10. Me after running a trend gif of the 12z NAM at 84 and the 18z NAM at 78...
  11. Maybe I can start the next storm's thread and name it that. I'd just need to recall this discussion when it happens in 2031...
  12. Every time go to open the main thread(s), I think it says “January 24-26: Miracle of Minge.”
  13. Our trip to Wisp next Thursday through Sunday is going to be a little chilly...
  14. "It's time for your nap now, pops."
  15. Your fantasies are different than mine, but who am I to judge as long as it's between two consenting adults?
  16. Haven't we had situations in the past where we spit things into one model/technical discussion thread and one general discussion/banterish thread for a storm? I might be hallucinating that though. I also don't quite think a teenager is being put on blast Just a feeling.
  17. At least I didn't mention rolling coal. That would probably be the next logical shit option if we were talking about pouring freezing rain at 22 degrees.
  18. Just to address all the people who are saying that people are crazy for fussing about getting sleet on top of a bunch of snow... For me, it's not about how long the snowpack sticks around. It's as much to do with the feeling of serenity and quiet and just sheer awesomeness of snow falling than anything else. Pouring sleet, while a neat meteorological phenomenon, is like enjoying the outdoors at a national park and then suddenly some dickwad in a souped-up F150 rolls up out of the forest blasting Kid Rock. No thanks, and fuck all that.
  19. Honestly...half the neighborhood is asking me or asking my wife to ask me about it (just like the bus stop moms). I'm pretty involved in the community, so folks know they can ask me about it and I'm happy to engage, but the whole "Meteorologists have the easiest job" crap gets under my skin.
  20. Interesting you say that. I was of the mind that it would have petered out not long after the run ended. No complaints about had that happened, but I suppose the energy that lagged behind would help keep the fun going.(?)
