  1. I've used cayenne similar to how you probably used the ground pepper. It works to an extent, but it's not a permanent solution for sure. I have a problem with them eating my tomatoes, especially early in the season, but I haven't had a ton of success keeping them away except to maybe deter them for a bit here and there.
  2. Planning to finally get my tender plants in the ground this weekend! Spring crops are doing quite well so far and my garlic plants are massive. Really hoping for a good garlic harvest this year after a crap one last year.
  3. Probably wouldn't be much different than Snowshoe.
  4. If I lived out in the WV/western MD mountains, I'd have noped TF out of there for a week or so.
  5. ^ Looks like the local stations didn't report anything for yesterday, but based on that dumping yesterday morning and the light rain through much of the day, as well as a few relatively close reports, I'd say we were just a little shy of 1" on the day. Add that to nearly 2" on Friday and you have yourself a pretty squishy Monday.
  6. 97.3% of the people here have no idea how your posts relate to your theories. Just being honest.
  7. Steady light rain pretty much the entire time since the washout earlier. The grass, trees, and landscaping have loved every minute of the last few days.
  8. That was a mid-summer dumping of rain if I’ve ever seen it. Almost felt like a daily downpour in motte tropical areas - heavy, heavy rain, a little lightning and thunder, and no wind.
  9. Rains really held on despite the radar looking like the back end was arriving hours and hours ago. We really do end these kinds of storms well. Love winter storms when things fill in, and even em when the radar is unimpressive the OTG reality is good precip.
  10. Yeah...totals ramped up quickly with that extended burst.
  11. Dumping in Burke right now.
  12. 18z 3km NAM is a beatdown on Friday. @mappy...it's looking like Saturday should clear up before the rains come back for Sunday-Monday.
  13. Things are shaping up for a pretty decent beat down.
  14. Euro drops 2" IMBY through about 03z with an additional 2.25" through about midnight Sunday-Monday.
  15. 12z GFS keeps up the big totals area-wide through Monday. Saturday looking like a serviceable weekend day, sandwiched between decent rains.
  16. 2" of rain over 3-4 days should be nice, even if the weekend won't be.
  17. 3km NAM has 1.5" to 2.5" locally through Friday evening. Rather that than have a Saturday rainout.
  18. There's no appreciable benefit to getting summer crops like tomatoes and peppers into the ground at the end of April compared to the beginning of May. Sure...if there's an extended warm spell you can take advantage of, then there can be benefit, but for me the potential benefits (small percentage chance) don't outweigh the benefits of leaving the planting until a couple weeks later. Unless the extended forecast shows warmth, I almost always plant in the first weekend of May. There are times when the roots are bursting at the seams and the plants just need to be given room in the ground, but even then it's got to be a calculated decision.
  19. That's pretty cool to have their first-noted arrival be on the same day year after year!
  20. First confirmed sighting this morning! A male stopped by the backyard feeder at about 9:00 am.
  21. Had a nice downpour via a small cell that moved overhead prior to the main line earlier today. Not sure how much I got, but I’ll play along with the drought angle and say it wasn’t enough, despite the fact that we’re unlikely to make up a few inches of rainfall deficit in just one event.
