  1. That happens in my area, as well. There's a small ridge that runs SW->NE right through my neighborhood, and you can tell the difference in temp on the cool mornings. There's a park and trail that run along a creek that's probably ~40' lower than the lowest section of neighborhood and you can really feel it down there. The biggest difference I've noticed is on a trail a couple miles away. You round this bend near the creek and there's a section about 100 yards long that's no more than 10' lower than the area surrounding it and the temp difference is pretty amazing.
  2. Change the "x.com" to "twitter.com"
  3. Maybe I just haven't been paying attention, but I can't recall seeing a system that rides so closely against the Baja coast and runs into southern California like the GFS is showing for early next week.
  4. A little surprised that the Kings Park West CoCoRaHs (about 2.5 miles away) reported slightly over 0.5" of rain from yesterday (the one almost around the corner hasn't reported). Just a very rough measurement of water that collected in a Home Depot bucket would have put MBY somewhere close to 1.00". No matter what, definitely nice to get a few inches on the board in preparation for our upcoming drought.
  5. I noticed that on the meso runs this morning. The storm yesterday caught me flush just as it blew up (almost split me, but nope) and we ended up on the highest end of the precip totals, while today we just got striped and will likely end up with highest totals again, especially if one of these cells to the SW grows a bit and hits us again.
  6. Wow...lightning strike less than .25 mile outside the home office window. Big flash over my shoulder and then BOOM! Edit: To say that there's no wind to speak of, but it's now pissing down.
  7. Yup...could well be. It'd be nuts if I got nearly the same amount of rain as yesterday, but that said it's raining moderately right now, with the meat of that cell is still SW of me.
  8. Nearest CoCoRaHs recorded 2.26" from yesterday's storm here in Burke. Definitely makes sense.
  9. Would definitely love to see some pictures of the sky as that thing was dumping buckets on us. We had a few decent gusts (nothing really intense) and a bit of T&L, but the rain...man. Sounds like a really good one IYBY, especially since the power outage didn't last for too long and you didn't have any damage!
  10. That's the cell that blew the hell up right over me. Yeah...that storm was wringing out every last ounce of moisture it could.
  11. Really pouring here in Burke with a little wind and decent thunder.
  12. Very true. It's been plenty wet, and despite the dry spring my lawn is as lush and green as could reasonably be expected at this time of year.
  13. I've gone under 100 for quite a few years now (I think), but this year I honestly thought we'd spike once or twice in an otherwise relatively benign summer.
  14. Missed us by 5-10 miles. We've definitely missed out a little more than YBY for much of the summer.
  15. That's a good point. He's got a history of this kind of thing, so it makes sense that he'd double down. If he hits, he can gloat. If he busts, who cares?
  16. I watched some of it on our Ring. Seemed like decent, windswept rain…but nothing much more. I get that storms are very localized, and I’m not upset that we didn’t have more than a very brief power outage, but I’d have been pretty annoyed had in been at home for this one.
  17. You’re the best! Give the news either way. If it’s still there, I’ll be happy I still have a house. If it’s not, I’ll be happy MBY got rocked.
  18. Out of town for this one. Can someone stop by my house later and let me know if it’s still there? Thanks!
  19. Flew out of DCA yesterday morning. Once we got to a few thousand feet the smoke blocked much of the view of the ground below. Probably got to 10-15,000 ft until the sky cleared. Pretty neat how there was an obvious "cap" at which the smoke no longer rose.
  20. Apparently picked up over an inch overnight. Not a bad thing since MBY barely got any rain from the Saturday storms. Of course, I watered the garden yesterday prior to our vacation only to get that deluge last night.
  21. Hanging out in NVSL All Stars tent city…and it’s toasty.
