  1. I noticed that while I was getting completely split during the first round. The second line dropped 0.6" or so per radar (waiting for CoCoRaHS to confirm), which was quite nice. Love it when storms come through just after dinner to cool things down and not allow enough time for the sun to heat things up again.
  2. The no-see-ums (biting midges) do bite/sting, but regular old gnats don't. I've never really had much of an issue with them around here, but they are the bane of my existence when fishing down in Hilton Head. I need Nuclear Level Off, and reapply on the regular, to keep them at bay.
  3. It'll be mine soon enough.
  4. We're totally redoing our garden area, but I only got a chance to build one of the two raised beds I'm planning on. Even so, the half-garden I planted is doing really well. I planted late, but tomatoes are really starting to fruit, so we should be in the goods within a few weeks. I just need to get the second raised bed built in time for the late-summer/fall seeding period. We've had enough rain at the right times, so the lawn is doing just fine. I rarely water it even if it really needs it, so getting the rain we have has been really nice to keep everything green and growing (though not too fast).
  5. Damn...must have been some pico-subsidence over my house because there was red and orange in nearly every direction that simply fell apart as it hit MBY.
  6. It’s always frustrating to be just on the edge of these localized heavy rain events, particularly on the warm, humid days when you just want something to break the warmth in the evening.
  7. Definitely localized flooding in this section of Fairfax County. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers
  8. We’ve gotten (and are getting) crushed with heavy rain in Burke. Must be some sort of boundary that set up over us.
  9. I find this suspect. Not sure how we'll get even 1/3 of that CAPE.
  10. I'm between the 0.20 and 0.78 to the south of Fairfax City (closer to the 0.20). We missed north and south with the storms at around 5-6:00, but then got hit flush with the one that popped up at around 7:00. Absolute gullywasher for 10 minutes or so, then had generally light rain for a few more hours. Those two 1.5"+ reading look like places that got hit by the 6:00 storm and the 7:00 popup.
  11. 54 and drinking coffee on the deck with the little(r) one. Magnificent.
  12. Amazing morning. 55 when I left the house. Felt kind of like walking out the morning after the first continental cold front passage in September.
  13. One large tree ripped out of the ground and another split in half down by the Tidal Pool. Lots of smaller branches down, too.
  14. Sh*t weather again. Oh well. Bring on spring (for good).
  15. Some of us are here year-round, you know, and have been for years.
  16. Headed to Oklahoma City on Monday and looks like a severe threat in the middle of the week. Don’t know a thing about severe, so I wonder how much of a threat it really is.
  17. Thanks. That’s how I feel, though maybe I’m playing with fire. Perhaps next year I’ll do it and see if it’s worth the time spent.
  18. Re: "winterizing" I've honestly never done anything to prepare for winter around here. It just doesn't seem worth it. Gas stays in the lawnmower, water doesn't get turned off, etc. Anyone want to convince me that I really should be doing something to prep for winter?
  19. I never turn off the exterior spigots - don’t even know how. You’re fine.
