  1. Agreed. No harm in looking at things, but, realistically, any “forecasts” are guesses right now. I’m going into this winter with very low expectations. I just think that the overall background warm state has us rowing upstream. Maybe I’m wrong, but we’re so borderline as it is that a general tip to the warmer side of things will certainly spell nothing but bad for us.
  2. So many conflicting early signals. It’s fun to talk about, but any “forecast” is worth the weight of a fart at this point.
  3. Didn’t realize that we’re well on track for driest September ever at DCA. Awesome afternoon here in Burke. 72, dry, and sunny.
  4. I was in Hilton Head, where it was low-60s and sunny. Absolutely gorgeous.
  5. Even if we're within a couple degrees of 80, it's not "never-ending summer." It'll (unfortunately) likely be dry, so it's not like we'll be dealing with mugginess, which is miles away from mid-summer 92/73 with high sun angle. Do most of us want some cool days and rain? Absolutely. But seriously...the hyperbole just needs to stop.
  6. The beers at this party were almost exclusively brewery-only, with all the stouts I sampled being incredibly difficult to get, even at the breweries themselves (think one release per year, with very limited bottle/can runs). This is one reason why it was such a draw for the collective DC-area (and beyond) beer geekdom. Also, pretty much every stout I tried aside from the Aslin beers were from outside the area - the closest to you I think is Voodoo, which has a location in Lancaster. I wish I could give some suggestions, but these beers are just so hard to find, with some going for $100+ on the secondary market (if you can find them).
  7. Lots of amazing beers - too many to mention and nearly too many to remember! Of note: - Hidden Springs: Double Barrel-Aged Fuffernutter Black Aggie - Aslin: Castle Hill - Horus: Coconut Crown and Hazelnut Crown - Voodoo: Black Magick (Double Oak) - Sapwood: Galactic Burst There were plenty more I did try (particularly barreled stouts) - and I definitely missed some great ones - but I did the best I could with what my body allowed me.
  8. Might be Tuesday morning before I’m back at 100%. I’m with you 100%...but I’m getting my money’s worth today. With 3-4 oz pours and wanting to sample all the best beers available (the list is full of whales), there won’t be any time for sipping!
  9. Going to a beer festival today at which the beers I’m most interested (of the more than 250 available) in are all over 10% ABV. Pray for me.
  10. I’ll turn on the anger in March when I get fringed in our first snow event of the season.
  11. It's coming into the middle of September and we've got a few hot days. <shrug>
  12. I got caught getting off the train without an umbrella as that storm yesterday rolled through Burke. I saw the forecast for today and figured lightning (kinda literally) can't strike twice, so I didn't bother with an umbrella. Hope to get soaked again!
  13. Yeah - that was one of the bigger strikes I’ve heard in a while. One of the best - if not the best - storms of the season here in Burke.
  14. Exactly, hence my self-trolling.
  15. Looks like it’ll split as it approaches our BYs.
  16. Call me crazy, but it looks like a thunderstorm over water and an associated Small Craft Advisory.
  17. September heat just isn't as hot, if that makes sense. Sun isn't as high/strong, and with decreasing daylight it doesn't feel like the heat goes on for too long each day.
  18. Yeah. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.
  19. I don't think Fairfax would remain closed. As long as the roads were cleared of debris and the schools were deemed safe (i.e. no risk that the structure would come crashing in on students) and that any damage was appropriately patched (even with tarps), they would open. If any schools were so badly damaged as to make it impossible to have students in it, they would find a way to get kids to other schools/locations to continue with their school year. I'd imagine they have that contingency plan in their back pocket in case of even the most random of emergencies...because if they didn't then they'd be completely negligent. It simply wouldn't be feasible to remain closed until such time as repairs were completed. The school year really has to move on.
  20. Sure they are. Heard his hologram puts on a great concert.
  21. If it gets to 48 in Biloxi in September, I’ll eat my shorts.
