I'll say this...the end-of-season map is going to lay bare how utterly frustrating this season has been for those within 10 miles NW of 95 - at least those of us in VA. I don't think the grass on my front lawn has been fully covered once, and I actually cut it down pretty low for the last cut of the season.

We've seen some flocks of robins already, though we see plenty of randoms all year long. Most interesting is when they pick clean the 35' holly tree in my front yard every fall. It's a flock that goes nuts for about a week in November until nearly every berry is gone. They left enough for two or three cedar waxwings who were passing through this year. Pretty soon they'll be queueing up for worms and other critters...

Yup. I was just about to post that this winter has really sucked because of the "frozen precip" this year. Watching other folks only 40-50 miles away get raked time and time again makes it even that much more miserable.

I think we're smack in their range, but I know I never really see them. Maybe they stick to specific areas like you mentioned - wetlands, certain kinds of trees, etc.

This winter has been dumb, so I'm definitely ready for spring. Leaving town this weekend for warmer climes, so while it'll still be chilly when we get back, we'll be even more ready for things to flip to warm!

I've got nearly as much ice on the trees as I've had during any other time this season. It's really quite exciting.

I may have seen an oriole or two in my time, but it's exceedingly rare. Cardinals, for sure. Robins everywhere. Blue jays occasionally, but definitely not more than maybe a nesting pair at the same time. We've had all kinds of birds at our feeders this winter - probably moreso than any other year. The kids really like watching the birds (and giving them names) in the morning as they descend upon the feeders. Great way to start their day!

I didn't crap on it. I stated that it didn't matter how much I got because the rain would wash it away. Congrats to those who saw good snow this morning, but those of us "down here" knew full well that we'd flip - we didn't need someone who has a penchant for football-spiking to reiterate it, no matter how well-meaning that post was claimed to be.

If it's that important to them, then they can track it on their own though, no? I've been at this for years, friend, so no need to feel sorry for me. The only thing I need to get over is your attitude.

Heaviest returns are well north and west of the Beltway. That's the issue...again. Now...I really don't care, to be honest. It would pad stats - that's it - because it's going to get washed away anyway.

Been getting rimed flakes for about 30 minutes - maybe a little more - in Burke. Cul-de-sac was covered immediately. Nice scene before the rain.

Got the tomatoes into their cells yesterday. Jalapeños are taking true sweet time, but I’m not surprised since the heat may will only bump the temp by about 15 degrees from the 56 ambient down there. They may well not germinate for a couple more weeks. @Kay...I use Territorial. Always liked their options and customer service. I used to order my tomato and pepper plants from Lazy Ox Farm (they’re fantastic), but I wanted to give starting everything from seed a whirl this year! -

Exactly! ‘96 was crazy, but it seems like virtually every storm growing up was marginal, and that the Lehigh Valley got crushed all the freaking time! My sledding hill was one of the off-ramps of the Betsy Ross Bridge. What an absolute blast that was, regardless of whether we flipped to mix/rain or not! I went to CCHS, but knew plenty of folks from Voorhees!
