Awful morning. Sun just popped out, so I’m feeling a bit cheerier now!

Moving this to banter... It really is great. I grew up in South Jersey and don't necessarily associate Thanksgiving with cold weather or anything, and I'd prefer not to be shut in on a holiday like that anyways. Being down south for the holiday usually lets us open things up a little and is kind of like a last hurrah before the cold season kicks in up here. I feel like it's just the right time to enjoy mild weather before we're shivering for a few months! I hear you on the traditions dying hard. I grew up with a very big extended family all living close by, so gatherings were very regular and very large! HHI is where my in-laws live, so the slightly awkward break with my family traditions began when my now wife and I started getting really serious 15 years ago or so. We did rotate holiday gatherings between my family and my wife's family for a few years, but we've generally done Thanksgiving there and Christmas up here (usually with my family) for the last 10 years or so, which has worked out great for us!

The weather is almost always the same around Thanksgiving down there - 65 or so and partly cloudy - though we've had some pretty nasty days and some really warm ones in the 10 years or so we've ben there for the holiday. It's honestly pretty great. We can open the windows and enjoy the fresh air, let the kids run outside, go fishing, play a round of golf. Then we can come home and be ready for the chill and the Christmas season!

Congrats! Wife is boosted - I'm getting mine today. Older daughter is getting her first shot next Thursday, but the 4-year-old has to wait...

I'll be down in Hilton Head for Thanksgiving (per usual) and would be perfectly happy for you all to get cold rain ending as wet snowflakes to set your Thanksgiving moods, as long as I'm enjoying my feast at about 65 and partly cloudy.

Every year it's the same thing: Take a general base snowfall (below average, average, above average), draw contours from SW-NE, and fill in the blanks.

I think Fairfax City does that, too. I've always been jealous of them. I mow without a bag, then go over it again with a bag so that the leaves are much smaller and easier to package up. Annoying process, but much better than using the electric leaf sucker (which is very good for hard-to-rake/-mow places).

Quick check on Google maps shows that immediate area is, in fact, at 1600’. Camp David is close to 1900’.

2010-2011 was kind of meh, but I wouldn't kick it out of bed. 2013-2014 was honestly pretty great, even if I'm not a big fan of backloaded winters.

Even if we get down to 20, when we warm up again for a few days that grass is going to grow. Don't kid yourself that you won't be mowing at some point in early December.

That's pretty cool that they're going to host clinics. Makes it so much easier and takes away the annoyance of going through setting up an appointment and getting your kid(s) there. I'm sure it'll help a LOT with driving up the vaccination rate. Fairfax County schools sent out an e-mail with lots of good info, as well as links to various vaccination websites to help with scheduling. Not perfect, but they're trying to make it as painless as they can.

Fairfax County Government Center had a bunch of youth appointments available, so ours is scheduled for next Saturday morning. There was nothing available at the mass vaccination center at INOVA Fairfax until late December, and nothing at all at local pharmacies!

I badly overlooked this part.

Driving home early today, I couldn't help but think that this had a nice small accumulation event written all over it if it had happened 5-6 weeks from now.

I like the idea, but let's be real...about six people would do all the talking while the rest of us either don't know what we're talking about or are socially awkward enough to just remain quiet.

Had one a couple weeks ago. Had a distinct sherry-like quality to it. It was also a lot thinner than I expected, but it’s definitely a good beer.
