First flakes confirmed here, Jarrettsville, MD USA. 29/25. The invasion has begun.

Virga party continues here in Harford County - 29/25. Getting close. Appears to be a few flakes flying by the tower cam now. Looked outside the patio door with the light on and it looks dry as a bone to my aging peepers.

Yep that event was great!

We should start measuring in omicrons.

Perhaps but I get sick and tired of people complaining about how cold winter is or snow - blah blah blah. Just like the whining here when there is no snow. The solution is the same! MOVE! I wouldn't mind moving to a place that gets more snow, at least 100% probability of a White Christmas. Problem is I don't like the bitter cold (below zero F with no wind) too much. Here I ride ATVs when working outside. There it would be snowmobiles. Which is very cool (literally) but I want summer too. My wants are a paradox with most, however. As I get older I'm becoming more intolerant of heat, especially humidity. 70F dewpoints and higher completely intolerable. I like wind and/or storm events that knock out the power but not for too long. Of course, as Mister Murphy dictates, the longer sprints without utility power always occur when my wife is amidst a baking/cooking spree AND the laundry hampers are overflowing. See we use standby and backup generators here and can live off grid for quite a while if needed. And that's fine and dandy but generator power is about a dollar a kilowatt hour vs. 3 to 13 cents depending on if the sun shines or not. I'd love to be a lighthouse keeper in Ireland. All sorts of weather and sound.

Anyone that has to drive in it. You can be the best driver with a properly equipped vehicle but it's a hornet's nest out there with numerous drivers around you that should have stayed home! People that have to shovel it. People that attend events that get canceled due to it. People shopping for food dealing with idiots running the stores for milk, bread, eggs, and TP whenever they hear a chance of snow or one of Tom Tasselmyer's woody woodpecker forecasts! People that enjoy outdoors when it's over seventy degrees Fahrenheit. People that work in small retail shops/lounges/bars with high amount of foot traffic off parking lot and dark flooring. The salt laden water dries and has to be mopped frequently so it doesn't look like some unkempt beach house! Post War Grand Boomers whose joints ache most days if they're outside north of the twenty eighty parallel. Yorkshire Terrier owners! Anyone struggling with high heating bills definitely isn't going to enjoy cold weather too!

Because it gives time to decide on whether to issue advisory or warning. Most of the WSW do in fact turn into WWAs here. Except 2016. Full blown blizzard watch/warnings days out. Miss those days.

Imagine being stuck in an EV (electric vehicle) in this mess! When it gets this cold the heater will draw some serious power which will exhaust available battery capacity relatively quickly. That could be scary for someone traveling alone and without blankets.

Yeah we actually got more accumulation from last week's event!

1/2" here in Harford and now crickets. CHART cams show impressive storm for those to our south particularly south of i50.

Steady snow, 30/28. Watching the dendrites move past the tower cam's IR illuminator have the same mesmerizing "feel" as alpha particles streaming through a cloud chamber!

First flakes breaking through virga barrier here! 34/27

Very heavy rain, some wind and first lightning detected for year. (last strike was 10/29/21).

The best comes with surprise! Jan 25, 2000 seems like yesterday for us but I remember how that storm came like a thief in the night and it did not disappoint! Back then I was working downtown, graveyard shift. I just got a TV card installed in my wife's PC (yeah I'm a computer nerd!) and was adding the cable channels. It was way past my nap time, close to 10PM or so and I remember stopping on TWC to see the radar at the 8s as they called it. Was curious about the returns offshore and how they were moving west. Watched forecasts, no advisories and latest was chance of a few flurries or so. Expecting a quiet night at the office, I remember dozing off in my chair after lunch break (3AM) and hearing a flurry of activity on the two ways (sorry, could not resist the pun!). Stuff for custodians scrambling for snow removal duties and getting mechanics (who I was in charge of) getting the plows ready. I walked over to a window and heard pingers or so I thought! HEAVY flakes, around the low pressure sodium dock lights looked like a lethal swarm of Africanized honeybees attacking the sun from what I remember. Drives and walks completely caved and white including the drainage grates! Whew! I headed to the stairwell, got to the roof, threw open the door and was greeted by a facefull of stinging dendrites that felt like the equivalent of a 20 pound sack of Uncle Ben's rice that was teleported from Neptune hurled at my face! The winds were swirling the stuff around on the planks and I just knew this meant trouble! Back to the computer on my desk, checked out the usual stuff and found we were in a winter storm warning for 10 inches or more accumulation. My how things change. That was a fun storm, trip home not so fun without four wheel drive as Orleans St. was completely untreated and by that time there was a good 7" on the roads. Anyone else have 01/25/2000 memories?

WU site has become as much of a dumping ground as this winter has thus far.

April?

Half maybe three quarter inch of white stuff on the railings here. Drives and walks covered and infrequently traveled back roads covered too. Just outside driving around, no different than driving on rain but some slipping if someone's heavy on the binders.

Merry Christmas everyone... Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday and staying safe! Cheers

Yes I suggested that nearly a year ago along with a handful of other members on their online forum. I also suggested theming as well. Being an old engineer I'm fond of nixie tubes!
