Happy Twosday everyone! 2-2-22

Well the first rule of unsolicited email is you don't bother reading it! (SHIFT+DEL in Outlook) to bypass deleted folder and delete permanently. Same goes for unknown callerID callers... Just Google the phone number in the email! I did and it's a list a mile long... https://simonerescio.it/en/2016/08/scam-from-china-registry-why-stupid-can-ignore Same with the so called "sextortion" emails that people get. They open with a diatribe about how you've been nasty looking at porn and they know because they claim they've been spying on you with a trojan that was installed months ago, etc. They claim they will share videos of your pleasures with all your colleagues, et-al. To prevent this they ask for payment in the form of crypto currency which ranges anywhere from $400 to over $2000 USD! Easy to bust those too as they have their BTC wallet (needed to send funds to) and (you guessed it) you can Google that and not only see that it's on an abuse list but also see how many victims have actually fallen for the scam and paid up! Then you have these phishing emails that look official with actual company websites and they may be an invoice request or similar correspondence. A link takes you to another page that looks familiar asking for your Office 365 email and password. That is totally bogus and if you ever surrender your credentials to such a site you're giving away access to whatever you have on Office 365! This is why more organizations are using One Time Password (OTP) tokens to prevent credential theft. It's absolutely insane the level that these scammer scumbags go to take advantage of others that make an honest living. That said, the easiest way to find a scam is Google. Just Google one of the phone numbers in the email.

All this complaining about the wind. I like the wind. The noise through the forest, the rattling of the shutters outside the window. And in the case of a strong storm force wind from the due south, the weather stripping under the front door that sounds like a child playing a kazoo very badly! Only when it gets ridiculous say like that scene in Superman II, that is too much. What made me think of this ridiculous clip was a video I saw of the storm over in the United Kingdom of people walking and falling over. Sensationalized press throwing numbers like 122mph winds (obviously a peak reading on the immediate coast). WS dumps do reveal a widespread event with frequent 60-70 mph gusts occurring in the more urban populated areas. Similar to the wind event we had here March 02, 2018. Bring the wind! Without it, weather cannot change. And change is what we need. So sick of this sunshine and rainbows crap!

How about a nice Scotch?

Like the radio, no one knows if you don't key up (transmit/speak on the air). Step back, listen, learn then ask questions or search for it. Knowledge is power. You can have a flashlight but it won't do much good if you forget the batteries! Also, way too much banter in the LR threads!

Tracking snow a state away is about as fun as rooting for the Steelers or Eagles!

Still snowing but got real bright. Like a generator is overspeeding and the lights are in full poltergeist mode! -

I know not everyone wins with these but this is just about right! Not enough to be an annoyance with travel and it just looks stunning out! Yesterday's mid 50s working the (tree) line and still having doubts after dinner when it was in the upper 40s! It's like a winter wonderland up here. 2", still snowing lightly. 29/27 -

Decent snow here in Harford Co. Solar panels and cars topped already! 34/30, dropping fast! -

Want 48 will receive 46. -
As much as I hate to deal with it, I wouldn't mind a full day of steady rain, say 1-2" on top of a foot of snowpack followed by a week long or more cold snap of single digit highs. You can literally ice skate across a county when that happens! And it takes forever for the snowpack to disappear.

Rain and some wind.

My heating degree days reports disagree. -
And here they are - some of them. Probably in record books for most expensive fireworks display!

In the 80s I was witness to see it go from 80s to 20s, severe including hail and tornadoes to cold rain and then snow. Ending up with nearly 2 feet of snow. This was at Norman OK in mid March. If it snows hard enough it will eventually stick as the ground cools.
-
First week of March blizzard to sleet to ZR with 70mph winds. Second week of March upper 80s, frontal passage entire state hatched with ten EF3 touchdowns. Towsontown center closed due to broken skylights from hail the size of footballs. Third week of March flooding rains.

Imagine what a Carrington X class would do. Or 10X that.

There's only one thing that beats the luminescence of a full moon over deep snow pack in the middle of the night. Auroras! Moving north would have its benefits for sure.

We didn't even have to open our garage door to realize this with PDI. It was dark in the garage! The windows on both doors were covered with drifting snow. The tops of the windows were 6 feet off the ground! The two most impactful events in my lifetime would probably be Jan 25, 1985 (true whiteout thundersnow), and January 26, 2011. (shellac carmageddon)

The ones that are/can usually have a photosensor with compensation, radiation shield with active (fan) or combination of the two. Ultrasonic anemometers can also provide temperature output that is unaffected by sun as long as they are high enough from interference (e.g. composition asphalt shingle). But those can also be greatly affected by rime, snow, and rain so they need ancillary inputs from other sensors. These methods are rarely employed in PWS hardware due to cost, however.

30.9 and rain. Starting to get crunchy.

Locked at 33.1F for a while now. Not budging a bit! Still drizzling. At least it's not freezing on everything. It would be nice if we get a bit of glaze as if it clears out by dawn tomorrow the glaze looks beautiful in the early sun.
