  1. There is nothing quite like sleeping in a tent with the ROAR of the wind. As long as you're clear of anything falling including limbs!
  2. Seems like there's something called blockchain everyone's interested in that literally wastes decillions of flops for mining vs. doing useful things such as climate research/modeling or medical research. Not to mention the thousands of terawatt hours of electric consumed and its impact. Sickening indeed!
  3. Was driving through Philly last night and highway billboards had severe weather notices, plan to leave early 12/22 on them. I guess that was anticipation of brief ZR before the changeover. At least they didn't brine everything. Areas that did get pretreatment will be washed down by heavier showers but the stuff is still bad for groundwater. Oh and just saw this scrolling through the ground clutter, Happy Anniversary Mappy!
  4. Half a degree below freezing here, it's raining so that looks like ZR. Special weather statement regarding this. The CHART cams out west certainly look juicy, and very winteresque. Looks like this is the first December in a while for us where there's no accumulating snow! Denial confirmed. Most exciting thing to happen this AM so far is one of the mousetraps in the pantry caught a field mouse!
  5. The last time it was this cold on Christmas for this area was 1983. And too, back then the wind chill numbers were different due to the scale changing. And the last time we had real cold with wind was end of Jan 2019? So many people are not used to this, Jack Frost is definitely going to be nipping for sure! For the "storm of a lifetime" [sic] we may get a wind and wind chill advisories? At least the bitter cold is relatively short lived! Still, it doesn't take long to get logs stuck to the ground like they've been gorilla glued!
  6. Fair enough, but that event sneaked up on us here for sure. The official forecast had us in a winter weather advisory for 2-4" snow after changeover. The actual outcome was 16" for us and it stuck to everything and caused a quarter of a million outages in BGE territory! That was one of the more memorable weather events for us no doubt. But as boring as weather has been for us as of late, a shut down, drying out winds and bitter cold following is most likely the outcome. A white Christmas would be nice, but as most of us here know the reality is we just live in the wrong location. I guess we all should know better. ;)
  7. Carmageddon III? I remember II very well, Jan 26, 2011. And for us, the thump came completely by surprise! House never had such an impressive row of icicles, looked like something out of Day After Tomorrow!
  8. Anything to break this silly calm BORING weather! I'm OK with tomorrow as I will be outside all day. As for camping, winter camping, nothing like it but a GOOD sleeping bag is ESSENTIAL! And the winds and wind chills, definitely would have the woodstove in the tent roaring! Waiting for the FLASH FREEZE. I know we should get something. Will be fun doing donuts in the trails with the four wheelers but it's always better with a few inches or more of snow on top of that super hard ice. If we lose mains (power) wife is gonna be pissed because the EDG is OFFLINE due to parts not being readily available and the smaller genny isn't enough to run everything in the house. Beats freezing to death I suppose.
  9. Christmas 2015 was close to 70 and pouring. And not even a month later look what we got! This year we probably get the boot both ways. It's like a magnet with two south poles! Even more depressing is I just realized on this day in 2019 we were getting pummeled with our first storm of the amazing 09-10 winter. Found some videos. We got 19" from that system. And (of course) it was gone by Christmas!
  10. Looks like the wind is going away too! This system is worse than a dumpster fire. It's like a dumpster full of tires with some ketchup on the side!
  11. Would not be surprised at all to see multiple reports of that... Coming from the Vaisala ultrasonic anemometers that take 10 samples/sec at the top of a 1600 foot multiplex tower! Seriously though, advisory level winds certainly not out of the question and definitely warning criteria for mountains.
  12. Remember that well! Lots of damaging wind gusts too. Seems like the best and most memorable events catch us by surprise.
  13. The only way to get out of that is a motor boat!
  14. Ambient weather WS-2000 seems to cover bases for $279. The WS-2902C uses the same outdoor sensor array for $170. 2000 has a better indoor console if that's important. The PWS link in my sig is to the 2000 and it does produce accurate results. It's much lower than my Tempest so the wind readings aren't nearly as close. The rain is very much dead on compared to a Young tipper I have nearby. It can be seen on the tower here: Tempest on top which is about 66' AGL. Ambient weather WS-2000 is on arm with the Accurite AIO below that. Those two look too close due to camera angle and zoom levels but they are actually over a meter apart. The Accurite is being phased out, surprisingly it is still 100% functional since late 2018.
  15. Roads fine in Harford. Trees like nice. Southern pines droopy as usual. Our Christmas inflatables are definitely feeling it! It would have been nice if this cleared out suddenly as the bright sun would have made the trees glisten beautifully. Just the right amount of accretion for that and not enough to be a nuisance or worse.
  16. If nothinburgers are high in cholesterol, I, along with many others are seriously fubar'd.
  17. That's the temperature inside the dome, it's heated to keep it free of ice.
  18. Humidity is no longer pegged at 99 and it is definitely clearing up here on the hill! Sizzling bacon sound from 115kV lines is finally waning!
  19. It wouldn't be my preferred experience but in the past what came after was worth it. Can't always have it either. 30F and heavy sleet with 55mph wind gusts would be worse! I don't mind the wind but sleet is the devil. Might as well be sailing and run into a reef!
  20. I would be fine with that TBH. Christmas 2015 is still very well remembered, we had our windows open and it was pouring down rain. A repeat of Jan 2016 would be very welcome here. Something locked on (by some) a week in advance and with every run it just got better. And a storm where p-type was never a concern (for us anyway) it just snowed its ass off!
