  1. My garlic was a massive fail...BTW...when I dug one up to look at it, it looked like a spring onion...it still smelled like garlic, at least.
  2. An excellent climo site provided by the NWS...you can get good info going back a number of years.... http://www.nws.noaa.gov/climate/xmacis.php?wfo=mrx
  3. I got my garlic in the ground about two weeks ago...My habanero plant is still producing...at least for another day or two. And I have two red bell peppers about ready to harvest....going down to the wire with those.
  4. I am looking forwarxd to growing my own garlic this year! It will be a first....
  5. Bumper crop of Habaneros coming in right now and there are still tons of Heirlooms on the vine ready to come out in the next week. Also getting some nice red bell peppers right now...first time I have grown them and am very pleased. Cucumbers are finished thought they did well...The herb side of things was an all out disaster...I think I had too much sunlight on them...will try a different spot for them next year.
  6. We will be happy to have you....we don't post as much as the other side of the Apps but things should pick up in the next month or so.
  7. We harvested three Better Boys and two Heirlooms already...and the cherry tomatoes have been going crazy. Even have a few jalapenos out...
  8. Very first returns this week! Expecting to bring in a big tomato tomorrow!
  9. Just pulled our first two cucumbers and cherry tomato last night....The jalapenos are looking strong too...
  10. Thanks for all the recommendations! We are definitely starting slow...fortunately everything is doing very well right now. I would love to grow my own garlic...I use it in almost everything I cook. It is definitely on the list for next year. BTW, it does not hurt to have a good cat in the back yard...one of our cats is a noted bunny and bird killer, speaking of organic "pest"icides.
  11. Thanks for the offer, Stove...my yard guy left me a nice pile for free after I chatted with him the other day. You have a fantastic garden...if I had time, I would love a set up like that!
  12. The wife's B-Day is coming up and she loves to get books on things she is interested in so if anyone has a recommendation on a specific book on vegetable gardening in these parts, I would be most appreciative.
  13. That is awesome, Stovepipe! This the first year I have grown anything in a while...we have started out small. 3 tomato plants 4 pepper plants and a cucumber...we also have small barrels with basil and cilantro...I think my wife will really get the bug if we are successful but we kept it very small this year. Definitely goiing to get the mulch to help with weed control and soil moisture.
  14. Based on this post, Bill, you will do well in here! Please feel free to fire away. There are some who come in brash and the old school will try to take a chunk out of them...but if you enjoy reading the board, then I think you won't have any problems. Welcome aboard!
  15. That website is a serious time hole! I love it. So far in my 12 years in the TN Valley, Jan 2011 ranks above all else for winter. While I also got to enjoy my first White Christmas, just the volume and the amount of time on the ground still ranks it #1. Chatt was in a serious snow drought until Jan 2010....now it has returned. I was in Tallahassee for 1985...but I have heard the stories of some of the older workers here and what they had to deal with at the plants with those ridiculous temperatures.
  16. Ahem, I can edit posts now, short stuff. Climo for severe weather and winters storms is decidedly different so we felt it made sense to have a place where it is easier to line things up and encourage other folks to come to or come back to AmericanWx...and the Carolina forum will be cleaner too. I know an extra mouse click to get to the other forum is going to be difficult, but I know I will somehow manage as I still love Atlanta weather too...
  17. After paying Tracker off....here it is! Good Luck and behave yourself!
  18. Truer words have never been spoken!
  19. I am surprised Emerson is not bigger than Atlanta with those coffers....

  20. LOL....seems like they are ALWAYS watching for anyone down there...
