Cloudy, cold snowflurry day. I have always loved these days, even as a kid, but friends and family think I’m crazy.

In 77 I was a student at UT and lived off campus. Remember walking from commuter lot , where the basketball arena is now, to the Hill during that frigid time. Had a Professor who said no excuses were accepted if we couldn’t make it to class. Had a major exam and drove to school and trudged to the Hill and he was a no show. Wasn’t a fun quarter that winter.

Always think back on the little cool spells before Labor Day. Gets me ready for football (and school many years ago). Never fails to heat back up for that first game though.- 689 replies

How did you get interested in following the weather?
ottorec replied to Carvers Gap's topic in Tennessee Valley
I remember sitting in class (Knoxville) in the 1960s ….looking out the window and watching the light rain in the morning , knowing that it would change to snow around 10 am because Margie said it would. And, many times it did. I think for most of us non- technical weather lovers, we became enamored with winter forecasts because of the anticipation and excitement it would bring. I think now my love for winter weather is due to the memories it stirs from those good ole days. I’m sure all of us remember waking up several times per night to peek out the window for that dusting to an inch. Seems like it like it was more often than it really was. Heck, I even married a “TV weather girl” in the 80s. She lasted 5 months on TV ….she was terrible. (We were only married for 3 years……not just because she was a terrible weather girl). Cheers. -

Nice Valentines Snow in 1986. Closed my office early at ParkWest in west Knoxville and took 2 hours to take the office staff home as I had “front wheel drive”. Not many 4 wheel drives back then. Good times.

Guarantee 2 inches of salt brine in Knoxville already.

Southwest Knox Gettysvue we have snow on mulch and rooftops. Around 2:30 pm the flakes were enormous then a mix moved in.
