  1. I lived in Baltimore from 1969-1985 and then went to Albany for college and never left the area. Cool to hear snow stories from before I arrived. 79 and 83 were the 2 epic storms from my childhood and were my snow weenie seeds. .
  2. I was actually in school at Suny Albany. Albany actually did pretty well my first 3 years of college. 63”, 81”, 77” and then the 88/89 disaster 19”. January 87 was epic. It pretty much note every Tuesday and Sunday the whole month I ended up with over 30” on the ground. .
  3. I couldn’t find killington‘s annual snowfall for my freshman year in 1985-86 but I did find 86/87 (233”)and 87/88 (238”) and 88/89 (202”) my other three years. For comparison they’re at 223 inches so far this year so I guess they got a decent amount of upslope and it wasn’t as bad in the mountains of Vermont as it was in the more populated areas. I was coming from Baltimore so it seemed like a shit ton of snow to me ha ha.
  4. Wow, that’s crazy looking. Never saw anything like that. .
  5. Killington skied into June 7 years in a row in the 80’s (82-88). Interesting that people kept referencing the 80’s this winter. Good for upslope in VT I guess. .
  6. From Killington snow report: “Snowmaking: The average snow depth on Double Dipper is around 11' and the average snow depth on East Fall is approximately 10.5'. Even with tons of snow stockpiles for spring skiing, our snowmaking team will be taking full advantage of cold temps starting on Friday. Stay tuned to see where they will be going next. “ It will be interesting to see how long they can stay open this year with the canyon plan. I remember skiing Cascade in late May, early June in the 80’s before the Superstar “Glacier” .
  7. Such a wide trail that it almost feels like you’re out west. .
  8. Killington was great yesterday. I really enjoyed Devil’s Fiddle (only pics I took). Haven’t skied it since college haha. What a fun trail!! Pretty windy. South sides of trails had great snow, north sides eye originally icy. Trees were great. Lots of silky packed powder. Catwalk was fun. Snow guns were cranking in the canyon. I don’t think they’ll make it to June with this plan but the spring skiing should be great with more paths down than the normal Superstar. .
  9. Paying for elevation with lodging lol. Crazy idea. Thanks for all of the info. I have to do a bunch of research and figure something out. .
  10. Wow, great summary. I’ve never skied in Europe, but hope to in the next winter or two. There’s lots to learn I guess about ski trips out there. So from what I gather, skiing is cheap and food is expensive? How are lodging costs compared to US? .
  11. Wow, looks amazing! Lucky kids!! I need to plan a European ski trip! Never been. .
  12. Since when does the CMC make sense haha? .
  13. Zoinked CMC. 1 out of 3 globals ain’t bad odds haha.
  14. 2.75” here just SE of Albany with a little crusty layer in the middle. NWS forecast was 7-11”. Ooops. Culprit was the dry air and I imagine that band to the north up near Saratoga where they reported around a foot gave us a little subsidence? .
  15. Up to 1.5” here just SE of Albany. Been drooling over that band to our north. Looks like it’s gonna stay up that way. .
  16. I don’t think the cutoff to the north will be that extreme. Northern areas could have greater banding potential with stronger mid level frontogenesis, and along with higher SLR's could help enhance accumulations. .
  17. I hit 24” for the season with this past one which was my 13th storm of the season. Least than 2” average per storm. I want a big un!! So many penny’s and nickels!! .
  18. GFS ticked south. I agree, it’s a definite possibility and seems to happen a lot as of late. Compression depression. .
  19. NAM the new Dr. No. seems to be having trouble lately. ICON precip distribution seems more “normal” haha. RGEM seems to be overdoing orographic effects. .
  20. A quick 1.5” thump here and now sleeting. 21.7F. Schools all closed here in the Capital District for this big dog storm!! .
  21. Both the 0Z Euro and GFS show precip issues with several of the lala land storms. Would love all snow but I guess if we want the storms then we need the gradient near by. Hopefully we can stay on the right side for most of them. .
  22. True. Some schools around here haven’t had a snow day in 2 years. Breaks are good!! .
