    07-08 I was a senior in high school. Southern lake county did very well, I remember a handful of snow days and early dismissals that year. Wish I kept an accurate measurement imby.

    Benefit of a south shunted system for me is cold air and clear skies. Steel grey overcast is lovely but a change up every so often is nice.

    GFS shunts this weekends storm way south and weak.

    Pretty abrupt shift south and weaker. Not going to put much faith into location at this point just glad to see a storm on consecutive cycles.

    Most of the lakes are iced over here now, but not thick enough for ice houses. Did see the neighborhood kids building a rink on the lake yesterday. I wouldn’t go out on the ice yet but they had no problem skating in the shallow areas.

    I was in 5th grade that winter. I’ll never forget the 40” December and how deep the snow seemed to get. That month and the blizzard of 99’ made me a snow weenie. The only other thing I remember about that season was a storm in mid March that dumped ~6”

    @beavis1729 I was always frustrated with the Chicago climo growing up so I moved north. Guess what, we’ve had 19” of snow this season and my backyard is bare just like yours.

    I’ve been skiing since October 25th and have logged 4 days. Trollhaugen in Dresser WI was the first place in the lower 48 to open that day. My home hill (Welch Village) is finally is opening this weekend. Very lucky to have many options within an hour of my door. Grew up skiing AV, Wilmot, Little Switzerland, Cascade, etc...that photo brings back memories. @luckyweather

    I’ll take an ice box if it means the lakes can really freeze up and the ski hills can make more snow.

    Woke up to sunshine and 16 degrees. Warm and dry is the theme for the first half of the month around these parts.

    Just piles here and maybe a patch or two on a shaded north facing slope. snowpack really starts about 60-70 miles north of here
