Low of -2 in Minneapolis this morning. Much colder outside the urban core.

Made it up to 31 today. Felt great outside with filtered sunshine. Snow depth down to 5” as the mid February Sun is beginning to do its thing.

Minneapolis has logged 22 days with a low below zero this season. The average is 23 according to the NWS and 25 according to meteorologist Paul Douglas who is the Tom Skilling of this region. With the potential for a couple more days later this week it looks like we’ll end up right around average this year.

6am update shows 1.8” of new snowfall from the clipper bringing our seasonal total up to 36.8” at Minneapolis.

1.2” of super bowl fluff last night. Temps held steady in the single digits overnight.

Low of -6 this morning.

0.4” of overnight fluff. NWS mentioned a slight chance of snow but didn’t anticipate any accumulation. Current air temp of -4

-8 for the overnight low. Couple more cold days ahead. Dense crusty 4” snowpack remains. We could really use something to freshen things up. It’s a block of ice.

Awesome Bo! Rollercoaster 24hrs here. 0.6” of snow yesterday evening then temperatures shot up from 27 to 39 in 2 hours. Bit of drizzle overnight and a morning temp of 36 which quickly fell into the low 20s under snow which was heavy at times but mostly mood flakes for the first half of the day. 9 degrees with winds gusting to 28mph right now.

LOL at people eager for spring in early February. Give me a redux of 2018 when there was a 16” blizzard on April 17th and the lakes around here didn’t lose their ice until the beginning of May.

After a few beautiful days in the mid 30s it’s back to reality today. Sunny and 15, Clipper type system tonight will be a bigger deal NE of the cities but we should still manage an inch or so to freshen things up.

Another 0.25-0.50” duster overnight and this morning in Minneapolis. Afternoons highs in the mid 30s next week will eat away at the snowpack and give it that grungy look by next weekend.

We stayed “warm” overnight only dropping to -2. Currently 0F and light snow this morning. Solid dusting so far.

Low of -9 this morning. Couple more cold days to go.

Baroclinic zone sets up south of us delivering the goods to you guys while we are under arctic high pressure. It means solid snowcover for most/all of DJF so I’ll take it.

Bright, sunny and 5 above zero this afternoon here. Going on 10+ days without snowfall and have 7” otg. Only 3 days since 12/9 without snowcover. Life is good in the Tundra. We’ll get ours in March/April while the rest of the sub is storm chasing or getting tan.

Torched above freezing from 1-3am with a peak of 36. Crashing through the 20s now with a few stray flurries. This is our moment for this storm.

The chase is always better then the catch. This has been awfully fun to track even though I have zero skin in the game. I’d be feeling pretty anxious if I still lived in Lake County IL, but excited to see the totals that come out of central IL. Going to be tough for Chicago to beat out Detroit by 10” this year after this dog comes through.

That’s wild. I had to look this up. I was a student in Iowa City during the December 2009 blizzard that put down around a foot in IC. Plenty of 12-15” totals around Linn county but the Cedar Rapids airport mysteriously was on the low end with 8.5” I’m sure @hawkeyehas memories of that storm 12-8/9-2009

Time to activate the NW trend. C’mon Korean model. In all seriousness looks like a very solid storm for much of the sub, and deep deep cold for me. Flying to Chicago Saturday morning February 5th so here’s to hoping it’s stacked high when I arrive.

-6 for the overnight low. Heat island flexed it’s muscles and kept us warmer then surrounding areas. This is the 15th below zero low of the season for Minneapolis.
