  1. June 2023 finished with 0.93” of precipitation which is 2nd driest all time behind only 1988. The average temperature of 75 degrees is 5.3 degrees above normal. Hot and smoky is the how I’ll remember June 2023
  2. More by you yesterday then all month in Minneapolis. The airport is at 0.93” for June and it looks like we won’t see anymore which would edge out 1912 for 2nd driest on record behind 1988. We’ve also achieved 90 today with the smoke clearing out allowing for full sunshine and blue skies.
  3. High of 86 here today. The thick smoke worked to stabilize the atmosphere and prevent any storm development in the metro. Is it supposed to be smoky in N. Illinois this weekend? I’ll be in Chicagoland Friday-Tuesday.
  4. For fear of sounding like a broken record, strong smoke smell and haze here today. Welcome to the new normal I guess.
  5. Getting a faint smoke smell in the air here today. AQI isn’t horrible but the presence of some smoke is noticeable.
  6. 0.78” of precipitation over the weekend in Minneapolis. Takes the drought pressure off for about 5 days.
  7. Wrap around showers this morning. Cooler temps and moisture in the air. Oh what a feeling
  8. Finally merciful rain. It’s not much. Less then half a weeks worth, but it’s something. 2nd driest June still in the cards.
  9. Strong storms building south of town. Hoping it can build my up way before moving east.
  10. Yup, decaying showers brought the LLJ to the surface. Flying Cloud Airport in Eden Prairie reported a 62mph gust. Numerous reports of power out in the western suburbs. But hey we recorded a T of rainfall.
  11. Watching this line of rain dry up as it moves towards the metro is depressing. We’ll be lucky to double our June total today at this rate.
  12. Minneapolis recorded its 10th 90 degree day of the season today. Hopefully the last for awhile. Brief shower just deposited 0.02” which brings the June total up to a hefty 0.12” Really hoping this weekends rains deliver the goods.
  13. Minneapolis has achieved our 9th 90 of the year today.
  14. I sure hope so. Sitting at 0.26” of precipitation since May 15th.
  15. Nope, just an all out nerd on anything earth science/natural world based. I was living in Illinois when the EAB decimated the ash population, and did extensive research on the subject since my childhood backyard was nothing but ash trees. I’ve watched the cycle begin to repeat itself up here in MN the past several years.
  16. Hopefully it’s not lots of lower trunk growth, that could be a sign of emerald ash borer infection. 91 here this afternoon. 8th 90 of the year.
  17. Dust storms from the SW. The melt in Colorado was accelerated this year due to dust accretion on the snow.
  18. Over the weekend I was in Utah visiting family and got the chance to ski on the final day of the season at Snowbird. Pretty awesome conditions for mid June.
  19. Pounding ice cold ones all day. Up to 91 for the high. Low 50 dews help a lot too.
  20. 88 in Minneapolis at 1pm. We should make a push for our 7th 90 degree day of the year.
  21. I thought we were heading for a very wet summer especially after 21’ and 22’ were so dry. 2023 said hold my beer.
  22. Another weekend of 0.01” of precipitation in Minneapolis.
  23. We are putting 1988 to shame.
  24. Setting the wrong records this summer. Next up, driest June on record. June 1988 had a paltry 0.22” of precipitation, we are at 0.09” as of 6/15.
  25. AQI up to 243 locally. I’ve never seen it above 180 until today. Scary stuff
