Rained until just south of Duluth on us. Colors are still great up here. Maples are done but the birch/aspen, and the underbrush are ablaze.

Storm total rainfall just surpassed 1” at the airport. Looks like an all day rainer to make packing the car and tossing on the roof box enjoyable.

Rain is slowly spreading north towards the metro. Looks like 2-3” of beneficial rain area wide. Glad I don’t have to work in it tomorrow. All day soaker.
One last hurrah before winter sets in, taking the family camping up north this weekend. We’ll be at Tettegoche State Park along Lake Superior. Might be setting myself up for an interesting weekend, we’ll have the dog, our 2 year old, and my wife who is 6 months pregnant.

Not that its any consolation, but remember Im talking days with 1"+ snowcover, so that doesnt count days of a Trace snowcover (a dusting or patches).
Honestly TN averages less lol. Knoxville averages 5 days per winter of 1"+ snowcover & Nashville averages 6 days.
For Detroit, the longterm avg is 50 days.

I’m a bit surprised at the record for days with 1” snowcover. I would have thought Detroit had a few winter with over 100 days.
Posting stats for Minneapolis as a comparison and humble brag for last winter.

Frost and Freeze advisories all around. The growing season ends for most of Minnesota tonight.

Airport dropped to 37, widespread frost outside the heat island.

Currently 39 in Minneapolis. Coldest temperature of the season so far. 36 at my suburban office with patchy frost.

45 in the city. I’m sure much colder outside the heat island.
-
Pretty big recovery in the Twin Cities metro. Last year was the driest September with 0.24” and October finished the same amount.

The first mention of wet snow mixing in across central Minnesota tomorrow has appeared in the MPX afternoon forecast discussion.
Widespread frost outside the metro and widespread freeze up north this weekend into early next week. Stuck in the low 50s here for awhile.

Good soaking rain and falling temperatures will be the theme tonight. Lots of leaving dropping with the gusty winds today. The bottom really drops out Thursday evening which will make this the AC to Furnace in less then a week time of year.

Thank you.
Also, mean maximum temperature since August 1 is 2nd warmest on record, mean average and mean low temperature are both records for that period - the mean average temperature by a whopping 1.2F, and mean low temperature by 1.5F. Those are massive jumps for a 62-day period!
Mean maximum
Mean Average
Mean Low
Interestingly, 17 years had mean average temperatures at or below the mean mimimum temperature from 2023 for this period:
And 14 years had mean maximum temperatures less than or equal to the mean average temperature of 2023:
Thank you for confirming how miserable this summer was for me. Couldn’t even get much relief at night.

It reached 91 in Minneapolis today. This is the warmest October temperature on record. It had previously gotten to 90 twice in October in 1997 and 1928.

Going big with the line of storms that just blasted through.

Down to 38 here overnight. Average first freeze for Minneapolis is October 10th and we are looking at no freezing weather in site.
90% of years have a freeze in Minneapolis by 10/26.
