  1. Rain is slowly spreading north towards the metro. Looks like 2-3” of beneficial rain area wide. Glad I don’t have to work in it tomorrow. All day soaker.

One last hurrah before winter sets in, taking the family camping up north this weekend. We’ll be at Tettegoche State Park along Lake Superior. Might be setting myself up for an interesting weekend, we’ll have the dog, our 2 year old, and my wife who is 6 months pregnant.

Not that its any consolation, but remember Im talking days with 1"+ snowcover, so that doesnt count days of a Trace snowcover (a dusting or patches).

Honestly TN averages less lol. Knoxville averages 5 days per winter of 1"+ snowcover &  Nashville averages 6 days.

For Detroit, the longterm avg is 50 days.

I’m a bit surprised at the record for days with 1” snowcover. I would have thought Detroit had a few winter with over 100 days.

Posting stats for Minneapolis as a comparison and humble brag for last winter.

  3. The first mention of wet snow mixing in across central Minnesota tomorrow has appeared in the MPX afternoon forecast discussion.

Widespread frost outside the metro and widespread freeze up north this weekend into early next week. Stuck in the low 50s here for awhile.

    Thank you.

Also, mean maximum temperature since August 1 is 2nd warmest on record, mean average and mean low temperature are both records for that period - the mean average temperature by a whopping 1.2F, and mean low temperature by 1.5F. Those are massive jumps for a 62-day period!

Interestingly, 17 years had mean average temperatures at or below the mean mimimum temperature from 2023 for this period:

And 14 years had mean maximum temperatures less than or equal to the mean average temperature of 2023:

Thank you for confirming how miserable this summer was for me. Couldn’t even get much relief at night.
