Is their car still broadcasting and FLOATING??? Where are they? EDIT - HOLY CRAP! It is floating!!

No lie.....I am seriously concerned for Brett Adair. Dude is trapped and is making one bad decision after another.
-
Because of course he did. Hype machine in full effect. Whether it's winter with 2 foot snow storms or tropical armageddon, it makes headlines. Not saying he's wrong, but I don't see it anywhere else....yet. Not sure how he can always be "first to know" on literally all things weather.
-
Brett Adair in prime position to watch a bunch of sailboats capsize and sink at the marina in Port St Joe. Must see tv! Already hurricane force gusts ripping the docks to pieces.
-
I think Brett just realized he has to move. Heard him talking about no safe structures in Mexico Beach and no plan B route except back to PC. If he stays he's certifiably nuts. Now talking about going to Pt St Joe. Thinking 25' will be high enough there. But no way I would risk that. These guys are at serious risk.

Brett Adair is insane!! He's parking himself literally in the eye at landfall. Looking for a parking garage along the waterfront in Mexico Beach. NUTS!!

Agreed and understand. However, across central NC we usually see 25-35mph gusts from significant tropical systems that pass thru. So we get, 35-50 this time, big deal. It's still thunderstorm type activity which can lead to downed trees and power lines. That's really my point. The mets aren't going to freak out over conditions that could come from a spring frontal passage, a summer storm, or a decaying tropical system. Regardless, be prepared!

Calm down folks. I don't want to underplay this for anyone in NC given the remaining damage from Flo, but generally speaking, a few inches of rain (localized, short term flooding) and some thunderstorm type gusts (localized damage where the gust occurred) usually don't cause mass notifications from the TV mets. You get the usual alerts (which are already out from the NWS) and some updates on the half hours. Power outages across the state are the most likely outcome here. Beyond that, I say let's take a step back from the doom and gloom here in NC. Leave that for the immediate coastline and 50-75 miles inland.
-
For Florence I saw a link to a power outage forecast for NC/SC. Anyone know where that link is for the entire SE? The power outages from this is going to be catastrophic over such a large rural area, not to mention some rather large cities like PC, ATL, Columbia, Wilmington, etc.

Do I hear Cat 4? What an amazing ramp up. Very Katrina-esque as far as RI goes.
-
I found the 40's in Minnesota. I'm gonna enjoy this for a couple days and I will hitch a cold front to the plane and drag it on down for the SE peeps. This is AWESOME!

Like I thought. October hangs on with more of the same, just 80's instead of 90's, and then November will fall off a cliff. We'll get about 2 weeks of fall this year and most of this board will go postal and start smashing their weather stations. Please post any coupon codes you find for replacements. Indian summer is one thing, but this month is a whole new ballgame. We're making history in many ways.

And the Chiggers, and the ticks, and now the stink bugs are looking to get back inside. HORRIBLE year for bugs!!
-
Who cares about temps being in the 60's and 70's when it is only because of heavy fog and rainy conditions. This has to be overall the most crappy year of weather I can remember. And at this point, if I dont get my extended fall, I sure as heck dont want to dive straight into a cold and snowy winter. Groundhog day forecast for much of this week and weekend. Bring on October.

Not saying the pic above isnt bad, it certainly has an impact. But in reality the houses and infrastructure still stand. The beach and dunes were basically moved 100 feet inland and covered the road. This happens with many storms and can easily be fixed. Its the water damage and flooding pics that resonate with me the most. There is simply no recovery. Roads must be reconstructed, not just repaved. Sewer and water lines, gas lines, electrical wires, homes, cars, livestock, literally everything.

24 hours x 2 in some places. Here in the triad we had between 6-8" over roughly a 36 hour run. The Dan River up in Danville VA was near its all time high I think. There were many places, almost the entire sandhills region SE of Raleigh down to the coast, that received steady rainfall for 48 hours or more. There are rivers cresting this morning over 30' above flood stage next to towns with zero elevation. New Bern, Kinston, Jacksonville. And even littler towns like Pollocksville NC which may cease to exist after this. An unprecendented catastrophy. Flo made her mark in history.
-
Good grief is Flo even moving anymore? She is still drinking off the atlantic like a 7-11 big gulp. The radar is loaded for another 6-8 hours. If feel for those folks down east, but now I'm starting to worry about the folks around CLT and across the southern piedmont. The flooding is going to get scary bad real quick tomorrow with another 6-12" to go. There is just no way to prepare for this type of destruction across an entire state.
-
Yeah, but just like we had no spring, I definitely dont wanna give up my fall. Best time of the year! If we go from 80's to 50's me and mother nature are gonna have a chat. (She'll win of course)
-
Curious if the banding coming thru Durham and just south of 85 is just heavy rain or is it packing TS force winds too? Looks strong!

Atlantic Beach pier cam is getting ROCKED!! Hard to tell but I think it is missing pieces at least on the right side vs what I saw before. No way that pier stands up to 12+ hours of this pounding.
-
Atlantic Beach Pier is about to go down. The waves are knocking the end of the pier sideways. Wont be long.
-
With the slight shift north and the expanding wind fields I have serious concerns for the Pamlico Sound /Tar River area around Little Washington. The downtown area there regularly floods with lesser systems. Anything approaching a 9-10' surge wont end well for those businesses.
-
Bad time for maintenence, good time for a weakening Florence. Recon finding 956mb, similar to Fran 954mb at landfall I think, and an expanding wind field. Not sure she's gonna tighten back up.

Thats amazing. If you get the full eye you would have time to clean up the yard, wash the car, grill some burgers and take a nap before the backside comes thru! Cant imagine that is accurate?!
