  1. Too soon! That was my childhood. .
  2. Weren’t we below freezing for more than two weeks? Am I remembering that correctly? .
  3. As a lifelong Mets fan, I fully expect Max Scherzer’s arm to fly off around Memorial Day. .
  4. This is why you don’t cancel winter on December 1. Sure, logic tells me this probably won’t happen, but I’ve seen this movie before… it’s mild, it gets cold for a quick snap and snows, and it melts in three days. I’ve also lived the movie where it’s cold and cold and cold and dry. .
  5. That’s crazy. Our leaves have been gone for several weeks now in Morris County. They were late, too, like everyone else, but they’ve fallen. .
  6. It’s like the swallows returning to Capistrano; same thing every year. It might just end up being a boring winter, but honestly, none of us know. .
  7. I like that we’ve given up on winter this year earlier than last. It was around December 7th last year; before December this year is impressive. I’m hoping pre-Thanksgiving in 2022. .
  8. It’s also not very logical long-term, and even worse for the environment and your furnace compressor. Once you really do want the heat on, and your home has fallen to sub-50°F, the outside temperature is likely close to or below freezing. Now, you’ll be asking your furnace to be running constantly with no downtime just to get your home up to the temperature you want, adding unnecessary wear and tear on the furnace itself. I don’t know what point he’s trying to make, as furnace replacements can cost in excess of $8K, and even more in the high-demand cold season. .
  9. That's bonkers. I think the UHI is always most pronounced in transitional seasons.
  10. I like checking in again after not being on the boards in eight months and seeing that nothing ever changes in regards to warm/cold battles and who can cancel winter the quickest. Hopefully we have some fun storms to track this winter. .
  11. I’m in Morris County, NJ, but yes, this year is very late, even compared to last year. I assume this is due to the sheer, consistent amount of rain we had all year. For instance, my lawn has been bright green and beautiful through this week with minimal watering over the summer. This is even after a week of nighttime freezes. The colors are pretty vibrant this year as well. My gut feeling is that everything is ten days late this year. The kids are usually kicking through leaf piles on Halloween, and that was diminished this year. On the second photo, the amount of rain led to a bumper crop in walnuts from my black walnut trees. .
  12. Of all things to argue with other people about... something neither of us have any control over. .
  13. They moved snow out of the Florham Park Trader Joe’s parking lot in the past week (before the last two storms, including today) to help with space and visibility. .
