  1. LOL. Banter thread, and I am speaking reality. Sorry!
  2. Its nice that people get rewards from just tracking. But some people actually have to get snow from it to be happy. Unless you like sun angle slush on the grass; its garbage by March 1st and odds go way down even for that. So 40 days maybe, with 15+ already spoken for.
  3. At this point I am content with a chase or two more in upstate NY/Vermont to get my snow and rooting for DC to come in under 3 inches for the season. Then they will officially have the worst 4 year stretch of snow since recording keeping began and we can no longer say "This is normal".
  4. I was a big JB fan in the 2003-2004 days. I even met him at one of his little get togethers in December 2003. He asked me what school I went to and I said "Rutgers" but I paused because I was nervous and he gave me a look like he didn't believe me. But I got my photo with him which everyone at wright weather made fun of. I can't believe that was 17 years ago. How the heck did that happen? Accuweather went premium and I signed up a few times, but never felt like it was worth the price and then my interest faded off. I remember Jamie O talking about accuweathers true thoughts on all the JB bashing that went on at Easternwx, he reveled that at a GTG but I won't repeat.
  5. I don't think someone's emotional reaction tolerance should be based on their climo. 45 inches is 45 inches. A heck of a lot of snow and not a horrible winter.
  6. Yep, I was, there was definitely more snow as I headed a bit further south. But then less as I went even further. Yeah, I am hoping a non holiday weekend will feature less traffic and better selections on rooms. It was pretty clogged with people last weekend. I am still not 100% sure I will go. I probably wouldn't go back for 5 inches....but a bigger storm, yes. I usually wouldn't chase back to back weekends, but these might be my only weekend opportunities. Last year I didn't get one chase because nothing good was happening on the weekend. Kept missing it.
  7. it was awesome! Thanks! We missed some of the heavier stuff just to the south and only ended up light snowing our way to about 5 inches. But I was only slightly disappointed. I went out walking that night and it was so nice. Next morning as I was leaving it was actually snowing harder than it had during the entire storm. I really really didn't want to leave. Heading south, the snow stopped, the temperature rose into the 40's and the snowpack disappeared. Going back to reality was tough. I did go into Rutland, but I didn't make it to Stowe, I had to end my trip early. But I am already thinking of going back next weekend depending on how the storm trends. Appreciate all the suggestions!
  8. I am well aware of what they get there. I've been to Davis. Unfortunately it was during the summer though. But it would be one of my go to spots for chasing snow. Although I didn't really care for the lack of cell phone service. That aside, don't really care if he lives on Mt Mostsnowintheworld. Its petty to complain about "only" getting 45 inches. I've had a trace of snow here in Delaware. A trace.
  9. Love the guy from Davis West Virginia saying this is a miserable winter and he's had 45 inches of snow. Awwww. So sad for him.
  10. Nice pics Psu! Dobbin house is amazing but its kind of strange having a Rev War restaurant in a civil war town. Philadelphia Fish House punch was great, so was the French Onion Soup.
  11. Its doesn't look super torchy from now till early Feb. Looks like a near miss pattern. If I was in PA, Northern NJ, or NY, I'd see potential written all over it. Not so much here.
  12. Sadly I think its already kind of happened. 93, 96, 2003, 2010. Some blockbusters periods. These are the days where it seems like a miracle to get an inch and the 70 degree days in January are kind of normal.
  13. View from my hotel in Vermont. We are expecting 5-9 inches later today. (that's all old snow outside). Under a Winter Storm Warning. So exciting! Already planning my jebwalk. Going to do a little exploring today and grab a meal before the snow starts.
  14. Thanks appreciate all your help and suggestions! Have a good time in Gettysburg.
  15. I have reached Vermont. Solid snowpack already. I can't wait till tomorrow! Drive felt like nothing. I highly recommend a trip out of the mid atlantic hell hole.
  16. Are they even METS? A lot of the NYC ones were always just hired because they were good on camera, Sam Champion.
  17. But this isn't actually how its portrayed. That's the core issue I think. When people here see "a snowy look" or " a lot of potential hits on the 15 day outlook" etc......they tend to think its more than this. Especially in a heavily moderated thread which says to people "this is important". While the knowledge and science behind it are amazing. Its end output is basically complete junk most of the time. Maybe there need to be a disclaimer "Hey guys, this stuff we are talking about is actually garbage and probably won't happen. DC usually gets about 10 inches of snow a year if they are really lucky".
  18. Thanks! No real plans, but that all sounds great. Thanks for the sugestions! I am seeing now that those areas you mentioned will probably do better so I will definitely have to take a trip. Gettysburg BB sounds awesome, that would have been my choice if they were getting snow.
  19. Hopefully there are no snow lowers living in that little tiny spot in NY state. Its been consistently advertising that they get nothing. I estimate that is around Kingston area.
  20. Thanks! I'd be off the rails right now if I wasn't going on this trip (like some other people are). Really excited about this weekend.
  21. Thanks appreciate it! I honestly had no idea there was such a drastic difference in between those areas. I booked nonrefundable. It was really the only option. But I booked tomorrow night and Sat night, so Sunday into Monday (Holiday) is still open for those ideas depending on what the models are saying at that time for additional snow or if a significant amount of fallen snow is to be found elsewhere. It's likely I'll go out and explore those places at the very least assuming I am not totally snowed in which I doubt. Right now NWS is saying in the 8-10 inch region which I am super excited about. Heck that DC's yearly "median". ;-)
  22. Thanks so much for these maps. I am ashamed to admit, I don't know how to pull them. Maybe behind a paywall? I settled on rutland yesterday afternoon. Hotels were sparse due to the holiday and so I booked before they were gone. Looks like a good area but not much margin for error. Glad you steered me away from Albany. Not a good spot. Rutland is Probably not the prime spot but good enough, still maybe an inch or so on the backside. But I would like to visit Stowe before the winter is over. I've never been to a place that averages 300 inches a year, I want to see what that looks like. There aren't many spots like that. I know off the lakes there is an area north of Syracuse but its so desolate that there are no hotels. Thanks again for your help! I'll post a pic or two when I get up and it starts there but not so much to rub it in everyone's face.
  23. Nice! Another chase next weekend. Love it.
  24. Thanks for breaking out the 2 events! So do you really think areas of Vermont are looking at an additional 9 inches from the Saturday/Sunday event? Or is the Euro going high? Maybe its too early to call. Because honestly. I was going to be happy with 3-6 inches.....those numbers look pretty amazing. I will give those other areas in VT a look as well, quite a few good options. But I now agree that Albany is not a good one, it will snow, but Albany looks VTs Washington DC, at least for this storm. Its worth the extra 2 hour ish drive. Thanks again and good luck with the shoulder.!!Old injuries are weird like that, I still have pain from a wrist injury when I was 11 years old.
  25. Wow, these are depressing stats. But thanks for providing them. I guess I just didn't realize how rare it was. I figured a 6 inch snowstorm, was kind of a once a year type thing on average to be very honest. I can even remember as a kid hearing a documentary on JFK that talked about how rare his inauguration eve snowstorm was...and I was thinking, snow in DC in January isn't rare. But obviously it is. I can't really argue with the stats of that not being true. I guess it just is what it is. I will have to be content with chasing and moving to a better area for snow in the future (My location is about the same climo as DC).
