Ripping pretty good here in South Portland. Looks like the low stopped its westward movement so we should sit right under this band.

Oh ok, makes more sense. We lived on New Boston Rd, 2004-2009
ha, I was on the other side of the hill from you on Walker Pond - but moved to Standish for college in 2003.

that's funny that Fiskdale only got 3.5". We used to live there (sturbridge) and recall getting low end totals sometimes similar to the Valley, but they got screwed this time
I looked at the Public Info statement - that observation was from 12/1. Dumb they published a map with that in there - shoulda tossed it.
Side note - I grew up in Sturbridge, weird.

Appreciate the analysis leading up to this event, @dryslot & @OceanStWx.
If all goes well tomorrow night I should see a total higher than any one event last winter here in SoPo (7").

I'm surrounded by woods too. We have Deer, coyotes, rabbits, mice, fisher cats, foxes, turkeys, moles. Just about every small mammal known to live in the area.
they are everywhere up here - we get them just walking around the yard / grass / garden.

Mice are a big carrier of tics and we had a bumper crop last year, Not as bad this season though but with the daycare, The kids would have them on them all the time until i started spraying.
What do you use that's considered kid safe?

A nice 32.4F rain here, which was expected.

It should be good down there between 9-12z tomorrow right along the coast on those ESE winds.
I'm not right along the coast (3 mi inland), but fully expecting some + 50mph gusts in the morning.

Crazy how thick it is in that pic. If it really is grubs, then the turf should pull up like a carpet and you should see ALOT of grubs.
Never saw grubs, but sometime in Aug I saw bugs in the turf, so assumed chinch bastards.
You need to rip a chunk off and look in the soil underneath to determine if it's grub damage. Can't rely on surface obs

30 measurable events here that winter with 14" being the highest but 11 of those fell in the 6-10" range that season.
07-08 was my fourth winter in ME, and my first in PWM. I wasn't measuring at that point but I remember it being an awesome winter. >100" in PWM I believe.

Have that here too.
33 minutes ago, powderfreak said:It happens in convection season. Think of the PWM total and then you think, how easy is it to get a quick half inch of rain from a cluster of T-storms? Just unlucky and there were several slugs of convection and synoptic forcing moving through just 25-50 miles to the northwest of PWM throughout the month.
That gradient from like 1" to 3" is pretty sharp overall. Have and have nots.
We seem to miss out regularly during convection season, while others (mostly to our north and west) do not. I wonder if it's related to our coastal orientation and sea breeze influence? Same thing with Scooter.

today will close out the 3rd driest September on record for PWM with 0.42" - over half of that falling on 9/26.

Geez, send the rains here. Only 0.68” for September.
Only 0.28" MTD here

Tough stretch for those who love dews and refuse to uninstall in September

Lava, my lawn is a cornucopia of weeds and bugs, and the back half is in full sun and still doesn't look that bad. I don't know what the issue or solution is, but I doubt pounding pesticides is the answer.
Not sure if Milky Spore works on Cinch bugs but maybe give that a shot. Takes a few years to establish and you're soil is probably too cool this year, but it might be worth a shot next year.
Either that or till it all and plant perennials or wildflowers. Probably cheaper than the money you'll undoubtedly continue to pour into it.

What's the website where you can generate the maps I see posted here showing regional temp and precip departures for an (adjustable) timeframe?
