  1. Moderate snow here in College Park south of the central/northern MD extreme deathband. Still accumulating nicely; still holding at 28/28.
  2. Probably about an inch on cold surfaces, but nothing sticking to the roads quite yet in college park. 28/28 and steady snow
  3. Dendrites slightly smaller but falling even thicker in Hyattsville. Radar is unbelievable, no indication this is going to stop anytime soon. Temp is 29 and not going anywhere but down.
  4. We are officially ripping thicc fatties in Hyattsville. Nhood street caving for the first time since the morning, before the plows
  5. Just returned from 3 hours outside with my 5yo - winter wonderland! He's exhausted - I remember that dead leg feeling climbing the sledding hills. The neighborhood streets around here were well plowed and heavily salted, so they're fine. Death band incoming! It's been snowing without a break since 3pm yesterday. Wonderful.
  6. This is going to be one of those slightly rare storms where the fall line and areas to the southeast do better than the piedmont and hills to the NE. Sorry to all my higher elevated brethren! But those of us inside and around the beltway and closer to the water rejoice today! :-D
  7. Nearly 5" even in Hyattsville near UMD, 28/28 and still snowing. Shooting for 7" + ! It's a gorgeous morning here. Thanks to our furloughed forecasters and the hobbyists here for sniffing this one out early - and also realistically assessing its higher end potential around the DC metro.
  8. 29/29 in Hyattsville close to UMD. Steady SN for 30 minutes or so now, untreated pavements have caved. It will be hard to not watch this out the window all night :-)
  9. 34 degrees, DP 20, and very light flurries on the border of College Park and Hyattsville.
  10. I was not debating the lack of recent precipitation, or the current drought status. I was debating your statement "this should not be such a dry time normally," which was about the next 384 hours on the GFS. When I go out to 384 on the GFS (18z) it shows most of the region in the 2+ inch range... which over the next 16 days, would be slightly above average based on the average amounts I posted above.
  11. Grabbed this off wikipedia for 1981-2010 averages at DCA. Looks like February is in fact the driest month of the year, on average. You sure about your statement? Month Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec Year Average precipitation inches (mm) 2.81 (71.4) 2.62 (66.5) 3.48 (88.4) 3.06 (77.7) 3.99 (101.3) 3.78 (96) 3.73 (94.7) 2.93 (74.4) 3.72 (94.5) 3.40 (86.4) 3.17 (80.5) 3.05 (77.5) 39.74 (1,009.4)
