  1. Yup, just heard them flyover. Knew they were military but was too lazy to go outside and spot them.
  2. Just mowed. The majority of the lawn has survived quite well, and this is with about 2.5" of rain since July 1st, no watering, no fert, no lime. Nada. The clover is starting to brown and thin in spots, but the "summer" grasses have thickened in and are nice and green. In the fall the summer stuff will die back and the other grasses will thicken back up and stay there through late spring. I usually get a lot of wild plantain but this year they are really struggling to get a foothold in the lawn, which is fine with me. We had to reseed a lot of areas in late May, due to construction, and the shaded areas grew in fine, but the full sun stuff areas burned out once I stopped watering in July and are now all crabgrass. I think I'm just going to rake out as much as I can, topdress and reseed in the fall, rather than nuke the crabgrass with herbicide and then have to wait all over again for that to wear off before reseeding.
  3. just hit 110 on the "feels like" here. 93/78.
  4. 87/76. The clouds are getting progressively darker as they roll over. But it is brutal when the sun pops out. Hoping for a shower before everything is wrapped up tonight.
  5. Quick .04" around 4pm. Sun came back out. 81/77, 85% humidity. I'm thinking I made the right call to cancel a cookout/patio party for this evening.
  6. .67" for the day. The last storm had some nice rotation underneath as it passed over the house. Not sure if this video link works. https://youtube.com/shorts/B4hbFaJSe2c?feature=share
  7. .20 here after the quick hitter. Probably. 02 on the floor of my jeep. Was about a mile from home when the skies opened up.
  8. Awesome place. I was way out at low tide fishing for stripers there back when I didn't have kids and fished all the time. We had a nice school swimming all around us. Turned around to head back and saw that the tide had completely backfilled behind me. I couldn't find the high ground path to get back. Had to cinch up my waders to avoid getting filled up, as the water was over the top of them in some places. Things got very scary very fast.
  9. 0.00" yesterday and 1.49" for the month. Getting nervous. Not going to plan on rain tonight, that's for sure.
  10. Looking like a chance for rain/TS on Friday. So I guess it's safe to say I can take the top off the Jeep and go play golf Friday, based on how bad our luck has been.
  11. I've gone to a solo cup style, which has worked well. Just throw out the cups after they get too clogged up. I bagged 32 in one walk through the yard last week. I use the clear tangle trap glue, made by tanglefoot. That way, they can see the blue cup, as blue really brings out the worst in them.
  12. Struggled through 18 at Thompson Raceway. First time playing there. It was import drift day at the track, so if you can imagine the sound of a dozen suped up Nissans and various other compact sedans doing nonstop donuts you'll have an idea of the conditions. The sound carried over the entire course. Every shot it was all you could hear with the exception of may 2 or 3 holes. The heat wasn't as bad as I was expecting. Didn't even soak one shirt. Hadn't swung the clubs in over a month, and it showed. Drives leaked, chipping was obscene, and by the final stretch I started mishitting my trusty 7 iron. I only managed 2 pars, and maybe 3 or 4 bogeys. I find I generally play poor in temps above 80, but this was bad. Time to get back to the range. I'm supposed to play Lake of Isles in a few weeks, so things need to get buttoned up quick or else that place will eat me alive.
  13. Teeing off at 3pm today. I figure the heat index will be adding at least 5 strokes to my score. Might bring a second shirt for the back 9.
  14. My putting killed me last week. It was the only thing I hadn't been practicing, and it showed. The greens were fast and had tricky pin placements, which only compounded my issues. I need to drag the putting mat out and start getting dialed in and then things should hopefully improve.
  15. The fairways are probably faster than most greens I've played on.
  16. My buddy went yesterday and is there today. It looks brutal. Letting the grass grow tall on the green-side edges of the bunkers for an added slap in the face. The rough looks brutal. Even the first cut of the rough is a club grabber and then they do a 2nd and 3rd cut, where your ball is basically out of view, and you're not even 10' from the edge of the fairway. Greens at a 12 and tilted. I love to watch it, but I would probably need therapy after playing the course.
  17. Why is accuweather throwing around the term "Heavy thunderstorm" for tomorrow, rather than using "severe?" Is "heavy" meant to refer more to the amount of rainfall, or is there going to be a high amount of electrical activity but not much CAPE?
  18. Wow, it is mugwort that I have all over my wildflower beds/fields. I guess it still can cause some strong allergic reactions, just like ragweed, so I'm going to continue to try and thin it out.
  19. Congrats on the eagle! I played 9 holes 2 weeks ago. Shot 49 thanks to a 10 on a par 5 where I went OB off the tee and then crushed my provisional drive into a fairway bunker, and things actually got worse on the hole from there. Had a few pars and played okay, otherwise.
  20. mowed at 2.75" on Thursday and it's already grown out a lot. Could have mowed today at 3". We just had a whole new patio/driveway done, and there are a lot of areas that had to get reseeded. Been dragging hoses around the last 24 hours. Glad to see some rain on the forecast tonight and Monday.
  21. I'm curious to see how long it takes the housing market to come back down to earth, if at all. There is a chance that a lot of home equity could be wiped out fairly quickly, although I have no idea how real that chance is. It seems everyone sold high and then turned around and bought high. It would be great to see a summary of all home sales between 4/1/20 and 4/1/22 and how those prices differed from the pre-pandemic valuation of those homes. I bet the difference is pretty shocking. Maybe there is still enough housing demand waiting for a dip to keep things from really dropping.
  22. looks like ragweed, which have pretty sturdy root systems EDIT: I was thinking of goldenrod, not ragweed. But Goldenrod doesn't have those serrated/jagged edges that you have. Whatever it is, I have a bunch of it here and there, so I'll have to let some of it grow to see what it is.
  23. Awesome shot! You either have a nice zoom lens or some very brave birds. We have a few that are frequently in the woods behind our house, but they are very timid compared to their smaller relatives. I'll have a downy stay 10' from me while I'm changing out a bird feeder but yet the pileated will scram if I walk outside and get within 100 yards of them.
