  1. I‘m curious about the performance of the GFS since it was upgraded to the FV3 in June. Last year, the FV3 had all sorts of fantasy storms that never materialized. Does anyone know if it is more trustworthy at this point?
  2. Hey everyone! I stopped by the forum to see if there is any cool down in sight, but it’s not looking good. I usually don’t mind summers around here, but I was in the UK and Ireland for almost 3 weeks (it was between 55- 75 degrees), and came back to this nasty heat and humidity. Can’t wait to start tracking snow, but this increasing heat can’t be good for our winter prospects...
  3. This has been a brutal couple of years of being on the rain/snow line in Fairfax County. The tendency has been for storms to shift close(either north or south) as we get to game time, but we sit just on the edge.
  4. Not completely true. For the DC area, they said conversational snow changing to rain most likely, but they also said this could change and they will update this afternoon.
  5. I think we have had several surprises and last minute changes this year. I feel pretty good about the odds for Sunday night. And there's always the 9 day storm to look forward to...
  6. I’m curious if we still get a deluge tonight, dry slot, or just light rain. Does anyone have any updated information?
  7. It’s really exactly what we expected, but maybe a bit more snow on some areas. I got about 3-4” before the sleet and freezing rain took over. Most people got a snow day, so it’s a nice mid-week event after winter was canceled.
  8. Big flakes finally in Fairfax. We had pixie dust for quite a while.
  9. It would be helpful for all if you could post locations on your observations. Thank you! Around 2” so far in Fairfax and snowing moderately. Fairly small flakes though.
  10. So the NWS canceled the WSW and changed it to an Advisory continuing 1-2 more inches until 5 am. I thought that was odd.
  11. Shocking! I don’t think they have ever measured more than the western burbs. We had 30” in January ‘16 and they measured 17”.
  12. The Northern trend was real in this storm. We thought Fredericksburg was the bullseye, and then just south of DC. And the short term models keeps moving a bit north. But just south really suffered from the mix and north and west did very well!
  13. It definitely helped to boost the morale on this forum. Especially after 3 terrible years. And this was supposed to be no big deal. I think most are satisfied (except Ji, of course). And probably the Northern MD crew.
  14. You did quite well considering you were happy with 2-4 just a few days ago!
  15. When you all officially measure, do you measure, scrape, then measure later, and keep adding totals throughout the day? I feel like it’s bedn snowing quite a while, but I still have just around 7.5.
  16. Had about 5” before noon, now 7”. I’m hoping for 8”, but would have loved 12”. In Fairfax Co. just west of Fairfax City. Just enjoying the fact that it’s still snowing.
  17. True. Once the Euro picked it up, it didn’t waver much. Hopefully it will be reliable the rest of the winter.
  18. But didn’t the GEFS and CMC see this storm long before EPS?
  19. No we thought we would see accumulating snow this morning How much do you have? It just picked up in Fairfax. Big flakes...been light all morning. Hope it gets to you!
