  1. Is there a site or anything that shows max wind gusts in the past hour or 24 hours etc...? Only things I can find are current reports. There has to of been some 60 mph gusts here this morning based on what we were getting yesterday.
  2. Union county has went from around 30 power outages earlier today to over 3,100 now which is about 10% of customers.
  3. Rain slowly creeping in and only about a county away from Union now and looks to be on path with forecast.
  4. Def one of the best if not the best in Charlotte but I question his wind map in that video. I wonder if that map was supposed to be wind speed and not gusts like he mentioned. Only say that because it showed us maxing around 39 mph (gusts according to him) but we have officially at the Monroe airport had gusts in the low to mid 30’s all day today already.
  5. Yea our neighborhood just cut down a dozen or so Bradford pears proactively this past year after the snow we got last winter took out a few. They’re not built for the weather we get here. Otherwise lots of pine and hardwood trees that will be fine if the soil doesn’t give out. Precip totals also look to be down a couple inches around here and little less overall compared to prior runs. Showed getting close to 15 here on some prior runs. More like 7-9 now on most models which seems reasonable.
  6. Latest graphic on current wind field, tropical wind percentage and arrival time. Looks to get quite windy here tonight. Already getting gusts to low 30’s here.
  7. Ouch. Almost on the edge of 15” of rain now.....might get to use my generator at least lol.

  9. Atlantic beach pier cam is offline now. And the tide is coming in with high tide around 11:00 pm. Waters really going to start pushing in more now.
  10. Yea almost took a straight north jump in the last frame or two of the water vapor.
  11. I don’t think it’s missing any yet but this was a picture I posted earlier comparing yesterday to this morning. The camera wasn’t moving at all then. Unlike it being battered all around now. You could see the end of the pier rocking and swaying with each breaker earlier so yea I don’t think it will last.
  12. And even if it doesn’t strengthen, it’s no longer a comma Hurricane and has really built back up the south side of the storm which will only further worsen surge etc... to the north of the eye wall.
  13. Oceanna Pier yesterday compared to today. Already looking bad.
  14. She also went from 975mb and 85mph winds to 939mb and 140 mph winds in 24 hours once before.....
  15. It’s hard to see on radar since it’s happening in the upper atmosphere. Water vapor helps give some visual.
  16. This is also a cool visual to see where the shear and dry air higher in the atmosphere that’s causing the weakening. 6C4E12A6-FC87-4248-B9E9-B0462CF9F792.MP4
  17. I’d listen to ILMRoss. Below is a photo of what he’s talking about. They flew into the area of dry air southwest of the hurricane today and I circled the dry air sounding as well from that flight
  18. Tropical Tidbits has a great video detailing what’s going on. https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/blog/2018/09/12/wednesday-evening-florence-to-begin-impacting-carolinas-tomorrow-watching-a-few-other-storms/
  19. I imagine some strengthening today as it looks to have overcome that small area of shear and is looking much more organized with a good eyewall and has some big thunderstorms expanding north and west of the eyeball even further out now.
  20. There’s some shear that probably won’t last much longer. The water vapor loop shows it well.
  21. Anyone buying a generator or who has one should seriously look into the motor snorkel. It pays for itself not having to buy a tri fuel gen and works great. I have zero affiliation with them, just my own experience using it on our generator.
  22. If this is storm is a Cat 5 or even 4 close to land, with its size as well, I also doubt there will be much movement north or south. Time and time again these big hurricanes prove that they’re boss and it takes ALOT to steer them more than a few miles.
  23. If you have NG at your house and a hookup or propane buy a motor snorkel. We did last year bc we have a NG hookup for our grill. Works amazing! Turns any carbuerated gen into a Tri fuel and takes maybe 30 minutes to install. Also runs cleaner and more efficient with propane and NG.
  24. Yea I’m 32 as well. Parents moved down from the Midwest late 87 when I was 1.5. Few months later Charlotte gets their biggest snowfall on record lol. That stood for a while and I obviously don’t remember the 88 storm. But I sure remember the 2004 storm. Got 16 inches where I lived then, few miles from where I am now. And that was 16 inches of snow piled up. Not continually swept off a board to prevent it from compacting. I’d pay to see a storm like that again.
