  1. I've hit the goldilocks zone with this one til sunrise! About an inch and counting but the ground and air hate every second of it at 32.6 lol.
  2. It was a nice cool day, most of the snow aside from the north slopes has melted. Should be interesting to see how round 2 plays out on Thursday.
  3. In part I think it's because we have a natural predisposition to look for major weather events. The clown runs indicate POTENTIAL for a winter storm and naturally catch our eyes the most out of a series of positive yet less exciting solutions in the same period. Once model support begins to a coalesce around a certain system and window then we begin to get more critical with what we're seeing leading to on average those fluffy happy hour expectations falling flat (most) of the time. With that said, I don't think it's wholly human perception. All models have biases that at range will progressively warp and distort a look into the future. Regarding individual models biases I'm not really much help and would refer to other more avid/technical posters.
  4. Getting plenty of action in Honaker. Currently caught in a powerful streamer that has been crossing here on and off the past couple hours. Beautiful day sitting at 30 this afternoon with what I suspect to be an inch of snow.
  5. Hmm, indeed. That's a decent subset, implying good fortune. Might be looking good mid-feb with la nina if the SSW pans out.
  6. 1.5" in total accumulated without melting here, was nice.
  7. 29.6 A solid half inch has accumulated on grassy surfaces with the driveway starting to turn leaving only the main road clear. Snow has been persistent at a decent clip.
  8. To give yall an update I've been hovering 33-34.5 all morning with fairly consistent light snowfall. Since noon though things have taken a surprising turn with temps now falling below 33 down to 32.7 while typing with some more moderate volleys of snowfall. As it stands so far I've collected a light dusting on raised surfaces!
  9. https://www.nbcnews.com/science/environment/un-says-ozone-layer-slowly-healing-hole-mend-2066-rcna64927 On a good note:
  10. Tbh, I'll be happy with a dusting. Winter season has been anemic thus far. It'd be nice to give the dead grass and dormant trees a nice coat of paint for a couple days.
  11. It was then that the eastern valley rejoiced with the post-Christmas clipper, all was well... And not a single flake died upon landing that night. *Although approximately only 3 flakes reached @BlunderStorm's backyard he was happy nearly everyone else scored with the darkhorse clipper event that Carver had "masterfully prophesized".
  12. Merry Christmas folks! Hope all of yall are doing well. Weather wise this 'Eve I reached a high of 10.2 and received a couple more tenths of wispy powdery snow to aid in some window dressing for the season. In the end not really a white Christmas, not really a brown one, more like a "silver" one. At the end of the day though I count my blessings that I have electricity and warm a house. It sure was fun discussing and observing this one guys, all the best. With any luck we might be back in business again for the clipper.
  13. Sub-zero at -1.3. Not really flurrying but some microscopic ice crystals are sparkling under light. Maybe picked up from the wind, not sure.
  14. I recorded a high of 6.6 at 2:30 and have been steadily dropping since. Now it's 1.4. Feels like temps have averaged roughly in the lower negative teens.
  15. I'd be almost shocked if it didn't go negative tonight man. I mean, we saw this coming but this is some crazy stuff!
  16. Update: After a short power outage and some shut eye. Fortunately we had propane heaters (ventilated just in case) for just these types of situation and battery banks, so it wasn't anything too bad at least for us. As for the snowfall here accumulations were negligible. Roughly a 1/10th of an inch stuck, fairly disappointing all considered. In other words where one part of the valley is shafted, so is the rest for this one. No latitude nor elevation gain could save me with this one. With that said the temps have been quite impressive. Up to now I've been holding steady between 4 and 5 degrees. I suspect it'll make an afternoon rally but I'd bet money double digits aren't on tap. The severity of lows tend to correlate with a west to east gradient where comparably the cold has more time to settle in for most of yall.
  17. Winds ramping up to roughly 10 sustained with 20+ gusts. Meanwhile temps remain steady at 42.
  18. https://www.wymt.com/weather/cams/ The WYMT Studio Cam shows it absolutely ripping during the transition in Hazard KY.
  19. @Kentucky@Jesse from KY@AnthonyEC How're things going west of the KY/VA line fellas?
  20. 42 and rain starting to sprinkle. Front hours away, gonna be skating rink.
  21. Granted, the Euro in the past few runs threw us somewhat of a bone but I digress... lol
  22. I love seeing reports from the deep south getting some flakes out of these systems. You know there's got to be some really excited kids down there wanting something even resembling a white christmas. (all negative aspects brushed aside)
  23. Dang, was really rooting for that smooth transition... Here's hoping your switchover is quick!
