Tennessee Valley 2019 Fall Speculation/Forecasting
AMZ8990 replied to AMZ8990's topic in Tennessee Valley
For some reason it won’t let me click on the see more tab. I can read the first paragraph or two but that’s it. I tried to signup for his site and that wouldn’t work either. Maybe it’s because I’m using my phone to view it- 574 replies

Some of us definitely need to help more to keep discussions going, myself included. It’s always fun when we get the whole gang conversing on topics, our Tn valley forum holds a lot of knowledge!

Spring/Summer 2019 medium to long range discussion.

Yeah the next two days in Memphis look brutal, heat index in the 112-115 range -
I’ve got blasted in hardeman county this afternoon. I drove home from work this afternoon in blue skies the whole way down highway 64, once I got into just outside of whiteville Tn, the bottom fell out and the lighting commenced! Been that way for the past 2-3 hours. Seems like it’s sitting right on hardeman county

I’ve had several come thru hardeman county the last 2 hours. Have had double digit lightning strikes and plenty of rain as well. I will check my rain gauge once it stops raining and update my post but it’s safe to say we’ve had atleast a half inch or my rain the last hour.

It’s early August and Football season is right around the corner, and with that so is cooler temps and the season of Fall in Tennessee. We can use this thread to keep the summer thread free of fall/winter talk. I hope everyone has had a good summer so far. I’m looking forward to the upcoming months and what they possibly could bring weather wise for all of us!

Good stuff, thanks for that! I think adjusting expectations downward is a good idea as well. As hard as that may be to come to terms with, (haha). Good info to know though going forward, everyone will have to me more reserved when using past analogs to interpret future seasons/climate. On a side note- the rain has started rolling into west Tn from tropical storm Barry. Some areas could see significant flash flooding so it could get dangerous for some of our neighbors in Mississippi, as well as parts of Tennessee and Alabama. The temps have dropped off significantly ahead of the storm as well.

So John, I know you are big about keeping notes and records of the weather in your area. I was just curious about what type of winters you’ve had after summers with unusually high rainfall totals. There may not be any correlation, but I thought if there was any you would know. Let me know what you find out please.

I’ve had some similar storms over the past week as well. All from the north and out of no where! Rain totals for the month are pretty astonishing for June. We will have to wait on the verdict for July though. Humidity has been a bear this week on the west side of the state.

Last thing we need indeed. The kids in hardeman country still haven’t gone back to school due to all the flooded roads still affecting bus routes. We definitely need to keep an eye on any possible precip coming in the next 5-7 days imo. -
TN valley heavy rain/flooding week of whenever

I used to work in a lot of power plants doing switchgear Maintenance on the circuit breaks throughout the plant. All the turbine floors are usually on the 3rd or 4th floor of the plants. First floor is usually a huge open area that runs just about the whole floor with a large crane running in the rafters to move large items down and up from the other floors, and you’ll have a few other non essential things on the first floor. I share all this to say that most power plants can handle a serious flood better than most would think due to the way they are layed out. They also have tons of extra drainage valves through your the plant that are there to help in the unlikely event that a fire happens and the fire suppression system cuts on. Those drains could also help if you had flooding from the river the plant was on as well. -
That’s about 10 miles north of me.

I’m under a tornado warning as we speak. It’s pretty ominous outside

I’m under a tornado warning until 6:15 in Hardeman County. Apparently one has touched down in the northeastern part of the county. -
