  1. You lucked out or missed out, depending on your line of thinking. .
  2. Halfway through August, if the month ended yesterday this summer would finish 3rd warmest on record for Chicago as 76.2°. Top 5 warmest summers on record... 1. 76.4° - 1955 2. 76.3° - 1995 3. 76.1° - 2012 4. 75.9° -1921 5. 75.5° - 1959 5. 75.5° - 1949 The highest temp at ORD has “only” been 96, so there hasn’t been big heat. Consistently warm has done the job though. .
  3. This map is actually a good illustration of how the derecho quickly changed character rapidly as it pushed into the LOT CWA. It went from vortex dominant across DSM/DVN CWA’s, to MV dominant fairly quickly into the LOT CWA. My best guess on why this happened is...For one, the derecho had entered a post-mature stage...Second, the main vortex that moved from north of DSM-Marshalltown-CID eventually weakened as it encountered a disturbed environment from the RFD supercell. At this time it became more MV dominated. .
  4. Hawkeye and surrounding folks of Cedar Rapids better have some damn good pictures/video to share when they get power back in another week or two. The more I hear about how things went there and see pictures/video from there, the more I want. .
  5. This might be the dumbest post in this threat in a while. .
  6. MV’s were not as predominant until the character of the derecho changed as it existed the DVN CWA, so I’m not sure there would have been many. .
  7. ComEd did a broad brush estimation time of Saturday for everyone. Gotta think it’ll likely be longer for the harder hit areas. .
  8. 91 ORD (23), 90 MDW (19) and 90 here (21) today.
  9. Gusting up around 60mph now with the backside winds. .
  10. Definitely caused by higher than the 62mph at ORD.
