  1. sea breezes are no different from rain/snow lines as a matter of fact the tracks are even similar, a summer with a lot of sea breezes is very likely to be followed by a winter with a lot of mixing and changeover along the coast, the physical processes are very similar. It's no coincidence that some of our best snowfall winters came after summers that were dominated by a westerly flow. e.g., 1933-34, 1944-45, 1955-56, 1966-67, 1977-78, 1993-94, 1995-96, 2002-03, 2010-11.
  2. I still consider them on the same level as lmeasurements in PNS snowfall reports lol. We need more ASOS in New York City.
  3. Tomatoes and beans are the best and if you get a bumper crop they'll last you until next year (I freeze whatever tomatoes I don't eat right away or share with neighbors.)
  4. But the concrete coverage was less and the traffic was definitely much less. I do believe LGA is more representative of what people in the city experience (at least the northern part of the city), but I think it might overbake temperatures a bit. Honestly, I find EWR more representative of the entire area and its hottest summers closely match JFK's which I find really interesting.
  5. 109 is as unlikely as a 40 inch snowstorm.
  6. In terms of comparing it with earlier eras when there was less concrete it makes a difference.
  7. I doubt the near 100 in eastern New England works out either. If you want me to make a call this early I'd say 90-95 for us with yucky dew points between 70-75 and slightly hotter for Boston but not 100 (maybe 97-98).
  8. Either way the web traffic on here is much higher when a potential heatwave is brewing vs boring 70s and sunny (although I love that weather too.)
  9. This is like models cutting snowfall amounts, we all know where it's going and the trend isn't our friend lol.
  10. Maybe the Yankees will finally start scoring runs again when the weather changes.
  11. They should locate those sensors to the Great Lawn, unfortunately they are more worried about them being stolen than they are about data integrity.
  12. I'm 100% convinced even in an open area it wouldn't be as hot as it was during the 30s-50s period. Why? Because the dryness of the ground matters more.
  13. parasitic vines and weeds are overgrowing and I'm going to have to nuke everything this weekend.
  14. it still doesn't explain the extreme heat we had during the 30s to 50s period as well as a drier climate does.
  15. Higher dew points actually make it more difficult for the temperature to rise as quickly,. the air takes on the physical properties of water.
  16. Nope, but I'm not convinced that measuring in a concrete environment gives scientifically comparable results. And it's far more scientifically reasonable to assume that the rainier climate is keeping the maxes from rising as much as the mins are. Climate change means different things for different places and obviously affects summer much more differently than winter. No reason for alarmist talk of widespread 100+ numbers which obviously aren't happening.
  17. Yes and it's always the worst plants not the ones we want
  18. especially ants, they are right outside my front door lol, if I get a food delivery I have to be at the door otherwise the ants attack it en masse.
  19. Be careful what you wish for lol. I have seen such an overgrowth of vines (I wrote about it in the NW thread) that it's hard to open my front door or get into my mailbox. All of this happened in just 5 days. I'm going to be spraying defoliant this weekend.
  20. I'm surprised it grew so fast, it wasn't anything like this last Friday, can it really grow this fast in 5 days?
  21. We really needed this heavy rain this morning..... we needed it so much that there are large vines in my mailbox and blocking my front door. Lovely. I'm going to be spraying defoliant all weekend.
  22. you'd love the 101/45 of July 4, 2010 a lot more and so would our power grid.
  23. some of this crappy overgrowth needs to die.
