Upton had us at 33 this hour, still 28 and snow/graupel. The cold definitely hung tough today out here. South of the LIE is into the 30s so we probably have 30 min before we go to rain
-
28 still. Was supposed to be mid 30s by now. Although the south shore is mid 30s so it’s probably coming
-
Even the barrier islands sitting at 30. Huge temp bust today. Shame we won’t take advantage
-
Thanks. We will know if it is soon enough!

Still commack. A few miles across town.

My house is on the market now and open houses scheduled for next weekend. So we can bank on a blizzard.

Going to be mid 30s. Can’t imagine anything sticks. High of 47 Monday so even if it did stick will be vaporized. #winter25

Our peak snow climo period. First two weeks of February is when we typically clean up

Looks like gradient sets up SNE, lots of cold rain for Long Island!

You must not be a “numbers” kinda fella

49 now. Beautiful outside

Even if there was an impact why would it only impact night time temps and not day time? That’s what I’m not getting…the lakes only impact the temps at night?
-
Highs are going to be in the mid 40s for much of this week. Winter ended real fast apparently. No cold in sight
-
Time to close the shades for a few weeks. I’m sure we will get a few inches of slop in February or March but it isn’t looking good!

I lived in northern Nassau for the 1/27/2011 storm. Stayed up all night as we got crushed. I think we got 18” where I was.

New England forum always providing the entertainment!

Look at the maps you posted. The surface cold was also modified WEST of the lakes. Are you saying the wind blew northeast across the lakes and warmed up the Dakotas?
-
People are overthinking this. The core of PV lobe went to our west. The Great Lakes are not modifying -30C 850s. Sure the immediate coast of the lakes would be warmer but not 700 miles east

Unfortunately that’s how the meteorological community has decided to classify “normal”. In truth, we don’t really know what “normal” is because we’ve only been keeping records for 150 years during a time when our planet has undergone immense changes, from carbonization to urbanization.
