  1. I don’t like how the end of the high temps keep getting pushed back every day. This time last week the heat wave only looked to last a few days. Now it’s going into the weekend. Not good. .
  2. In Knoxville, we have probably had as many 70 degree days as 90 over the past 6 weeks. Aug is on pace to be the wettest and coolest on record but I’m sure that will collapse starting this weekend .
  3. I was on Emory Rd coming from Powell to Halls and that was probably the worst storm I’ve ever driven through. 40-50 mph winds and quarter size hail. There was definitely a little low level rotation in that cell. I was coming up 75 and had a good look at the wall cloud. Cloud structure was beautiful .
  4. Do you know how to look in the past on RadarScope? .
  5. I’m by no means an expert but when I was watching Ref and Velocity, I didn’t see anything all that alarming until about 2:10pm on RadarScope. You could tell there was a little twist to the cluster on Ref. Inflow on Velocity wasn’t all that great but you could tell the backside had started to wraparound. The very next frame is when the CC drop showed up. The tornado was rainwrapped and I don’t have much experience with that but I have seen in the past that sometimes a rainwrapped tornado isn’t super clear on Velocity. Two frames later, or about 2:20 you could see the winds accelerate and bow out. Almost seemed like the RFD choked off the inflow and the cell collapsed creating the 70-80mph winds from Knoxville to Dandridge. In East Knoxville, RadarScope was reading 90-110mph at 2k feet. .
  6. I was closely watching the radar when that tornado dropped and there was no signs at all that tornado was about to happen. Shear was barely good enough for tornadoes but it was mostly speed shear. There wasn’t much turning with height. If you watch the radar, basically there were 3 different cells that came together right before west Knox and the outflow from the storm to the south provided a little more southerly flow at the surface to enhance shear. I’m not saying it was a one in a million but the situation was just timed perfectly for that tornado to spin up. I can understand why a warning wasn’t issued beforehand but I’m surprised it wasn’t issued after the CC drop showed up. .
  7. Can’t remember the last time my lawn looked like this in Aug… .
  8. Looks like a tornado will be confirmed in west Knoxville between Karns and Harden Valley. There was significant damage in the area and the radar had solid CC drop. The 60-80mph winds were legit. I was off Western Ave and got the first time in my life i actually took shelter when part of a large tree hit my work van. Lol .
  9. Tornado developing near Sunbright .
  10. Forecast soundings suggest the greatest tornado threat will probably exist across eastern KY/TN northeast across southern/eastern WV, western VA, central MD and into southeast PA. Given the supercell wind profiles, significant severe wind gusts will also be possible on a localized basis. .
  11. I’m really interested in tomorrow, especially if most of the day is quiet. EML is quite stout for this time of year. There’s some cams like the 3k NAM that’s showing the MCV passing just south of Knoxville and that would help back surface winds. Even MRX ended their morning disco with a statement about how Monday afternoon could be a significant event if it materialized. .
  12. When the flood warnings came out for Green Co I pulled up the radar and went back 3 hours. IMO the radar didn’t really give off flood warning vibes and the counties next to you ended up with rain totals about 1/2 as much. RadarScope is the app I use but they also had rain totals in the 4 to 5” inch range even though their radar wasn’t impressive in that area. .
  13. Had a nice storm and it looks like another on is moving in. .
  14. The last couple of days in Knoxville have been brutal. Only thing that’s saving us is there’s a 5-10mph breeze and it feels good in the shade while soak and wet from sweat. .
  15. Interesting… I was at Cape San Blas a couple weeks ago and the water was bath water. I know Texas is having issues with red tide right now. Fish on the beach everywhere .
  16. Unexpected storms rolled through ETn this morning. Nothing for my area but it just shows these little wrinkles in the flow are hard for mods to pick up on. .
