Not something we deal with much. I know the Christmas 2020 system was highly localized. I had around 6” in Halls but 10 min west of me in Powell had 2”. A friend in deep W Knoxville had almost 6”. My in laws in Union County, about 15 min away had an inch or so. .- 1,263 replies

In a anafrontal system, is their elements that can enhance qpf that the mods don’t pickup on? NW flow, steep lapse rates, low level moisture, etc….? I’m assuming it could be rationed higher from cold 850’s? .- 1,263 replies

If that was about an hour ago north of Knoxville I was in it. That’s where my wind gusts came from. Pretty wild actually .

The wind is absolutely ripping it at my house. Just had a 42mph gust. That’s extreme for a NTSWG for my area. .

Nothing wrong with tracking 7+ days with an active pattern and arctic air moving in makes this much different IMO. .- 1,263 replies

I’m afraid that after tomorrow’s system completely clears the country, there could be a big swing for the Tuesday event for a day or so. We just need for whatever happens, happens after the front goes through. What the Euro showed earlier would break our spirits. .- 1,263 replies

Was Christmas 2020 anafrontal? What I remember the most is a few days later, WATE Ch 6 gave themselves an “A-“ critique of their forecast. They predicted 1” and parts of Knoxville (my area) ended up with around 6”. They said the trailing energy which produced 90% of the snow “came out of nowhere” and that’s why they missed it. [emoji23]….. the wave that rode the front was on the mods for days before. Cams were spitting out 3-6” at least 48 hours before it started. [emoji1750] .- 1,263 replies

This is ugly for ETn but I’ll stick to my theory that you never want to be in the bullseye in the 5-7 day range. .- 1,263 replies
