  1. I don't think the average person is looking at the GFS runs, but the issue was that it was weighted into the NHC forecasts and gave folks farther down the coast a false sense of security. One thing I wish the media outlets would stop doing is showing the center line on the cone. That happens all the time.
  2. You know winter is on the way when buckeye returns!
  3. Someone doin work in the main thread.
  4. Wasn't it performing better than the Euro earlier on?
  5. Agree that a 30" storm is doable in Chicago. We have seen it in other spots in the sub. And yeah, would probably need all of those factors or at least no more than 1 of them missing.
  6. Average low is listed at 47. The Aurora site is one of the best in Illinois at radiational cooling.
  7. Which unfortunately makes a triple digit death toll plausible. Let's hope it's not multiple hundreds.
  8. I'd argue that we are seeing a trend toward higher precip amounts in tropical systems. That doesn't mean it will happen with every storm, but the frequency of absurd rainfall totals seems to be increasing.
  9. The Drudge site can be loltastic sometimes when something big is going on. A couple years ago there was literally nothing else on there when it was about to hit the fan with covid.
  10. Interesting and timely. Thanks for posting.
  11. I have nothing to back this up scientifically but it seems as if local wx is so boring like 90% of the time when a hurricane is making landfall in the CONUS.
  12. This is not necessarily important for GA/SC yet, but the farther eastward it goes, the faster it gets back over water and the more time it would have over water before the next landfall.
  13. I think one of the things that's going to be said about this for Florida is how bad it was, and it didn't even landfall near Tampa or Miami.
  14. A prime example of something being technically true and brazen asshattery.
  15. I do think some people probably developed too much tunnel vision on Tampa. But that is why you always monitor latest forecasts for potential changes and also why it's prudent to evacuate a larger area than what may be needed in hindsight.
  16. Some of it (maybe a lot) is just an extension of politics. I have no doubt there are certain people in this thread who wouldn't care if hundreds of Floridians die from this.
  17. Look at how big Sandy was. I saw winds over 60 mph and 20+ foot waves on Lake Michigan for crying out loud. Ian is a girlie man storm by comparison
  18. Hopefully Sandysurvivor graces us with an appearance before all is said and done.
  19. It'll be a candidate with the rain and wind. They had the 90-100+ mph gusts in Charley, but Ian looks to produce a helluva lot more rain.
  20. Yeah, can't remember his name. It's like UCGS blah blah or something like that.
  21. Look people, Michael Myers wouldn't appreciate people spelling his last name wrong. I'm sure the residents of Ft Myers don't appreciate it either.
