  1. Can actually see it better on the NCEP site than some others
  2. That run gets 850's of at least -39C into northern IL. I don't even have words for that.
  3. Oh my God. That is 468 in central Minnesota
  4. Forgot about January 1982. That got similar 850 mb temps that far south. Point is we are talking about a very small number of occurrences.
  5. That is certainly some special cold on the 12z Euro. Even January 2014, February 1996 and January 1994 didn't quite have those kind of 850 mb temps that far south. January 1985 did, and I'm guessing there's probably almost none or no other occurrences on record.
  6. Thicknesses are sub 480 dm in the Midwest/Lakes on that run.
  7. What is that even? Like a 1 in 200 year event? Even more rare?
  8. That sure looks like a cold clipper. Probably first of many.
  9. To be fair, every setup is different, this one will have a sub 1000 mb low approaching from the sw with a strong LLJ trying to pump in warmth. Being that I don't live anywhere near Columbus and I really don't care how it turns out, my honest opinion is that there will be mixing issues there... maybe more than what the ECMWF suggests. Doesn't preclude the possibility of significant snow, but I'd be nervous. Good luck.
  10. Go with your experience buckeye. Columbus taints at least excuse imaginable.
  11. It's actually below freezing at the surface. ICON doesn't plot mixed precip for some reason.
  12. Hey beavis, you think we'll manage -32 at ORD?
  13. Nice storm. Rapid snowmelt would be an issue for some areas.
  14. That's with the first system "only" dropping about 8". Good stuff. I've been thinking about what the max snowfall could be over the next 10 days in this area if everything pans out. Not even talking about likely, just possible.
  15. Euro verbatim, that is possibly the most disruptive storm in Ohio since 1978. Only thing is it's a weekend.
  16. It looks like 850 mb temps get close to -50C in the core of that airmass north of the border. That is the height of absurdity. I mean, it has to modify at least a little, right? -40C has made it into the US on rare occasions though. Here's a forecast sounding I pulled from southern Canada. The skew-t can't even contain the cold.
  17. At least you get some "protection" from the lake. Good Lord. Multiple rounds. Keep in mind these are 18z maps, not lows.
  18. I'm sure somebody noticed this out in weenieland. The phase is impressive enough (and check out the 28 mb drop in one 12 hour time period) and how about an 80 mb pressure gradient with the surface high in the Plains.
