  1. They do radiate pretty well though obviously not to the tune of -33 lol. The airport is located south of the main part of Moline and it gets really rural south of there.
  2. Oceanstwx will like this one... Moline, IL was -33F at 7 am Thursday. It was 46F at 3 pm today for a flip of 79 degrees in 56 hours. They also picked up about 4" of snow while temps were below zero on Thursday.
  3. The high dews are killer... definitely worse than having the same temps with dews below freezing. I had about 7" snowpack before the melt started and I am expecting nothing to survive except for the bigger piles.
  4. Available 12z runs still have the storm next week.
  5. Records recap for Chicago and Rockford
  6. 48 consective hours below 0 at ORD and counting. Looks like several more hours will be added. This is the longest hourly streak below 0 since Feb 1996, which was below 0 for 67 hours from the evening of Feb 1 into afternoon of Feb 4. Won't get to 67 hours this time but anything over 48 hours is pretty rare for Chicago.
  7. MLI had -48 departure on the low temperature lol
  8. Very prelim summer thoughts but at this point, I am triple weighting 1934 and 1936. 1988 and 2012 are also in the mix.
  9. There has been a complete flip in the anomalies on the CFS in recent days. The more recent look certainly runs a higher risk of some mild ups but it's a wetter pattern.
  10. Still a ways out but the setup next week looks favorable for sig ice somewhere. If the trough stays positive tilt with multiple waves running along, then could get repeated rounds either in the same area or more spread around.
  11. Ridge position was not quite ideal for Chicago, but the other thing is that it's just harder to get the winds to die down at night in the more urban setting of Chicago. This is noticeable at any time of year, even in summer when outlying places will have light winds (under 10 mph)... meanwhile ORD will still be 15 mph gusting to 23 or whatever.
  12. Rockford got to -31 just after 7 am.
  13. The 5th time on record with back to back lows of -20 or colder.
  14. MLI is probably going to crack -30 very soon. Winds have been dead calm there for a while.
  15. MLI hit -29 earlier, so new all time record for them.
  16. Roger, temps are slowly moderating aloft. The rural stations were struggling (a bit) to drop too until the winds went calm at some of them.
  17. Yep. ORD has had an 8-15 mph wind all night and it's not doing any good. The airmass is gradually warming aloft so you don't want to be mixing the low levels anywhere on a night like this, rural or urban. If it were a CAA setup like last night, different story. There's a reason the coldest Chicago temps tend not to happen on nights so dependent on radiational cooling like this one. The reason this one has/had a chance is because it was an extraordinary -14 heading into the evening. I know you know all this. Just sayin.
  18. Could be a little interesting after the big cutter.
  19. They dropped 7 degrees in the past hour.
  20. -17 at ORD -30 there is out of the question. Getting to the record is iffy. Probably a photo finish if it happens.
  21. Don't get to see this in my car very often Actually doesn't feel too bad out there due to the light winds.
