  1. Was just going to ask if anyone noticed the moderate risk in the western sub.
  2. The thing I took issue with was the post immediately saying it could be worse than Joplin. That is a really dramatic statement to make literally minutes after it hits. Sure, we will get another Joplin or worse someday, but that type of thing comes around very infrequently (from a death toll perspective). No issue at all with saying it could've been a strong-violent tornado. The radar indicators were there and the damage pics that have come out tend to back it up.
  3. Might have an argument that it overperformed. Tempting to think it but I'm not sure yet. Will be curious to see what the final count is. Everybody needs to remember that really bad tornadoes can still occur with lower risk categories.
  4. Just noticed there was 4" diameter hail reported west of LAF. Not sure it was that cell or another one but in any case, 4" hail is not that common in Indiana.
  5. Let's be reasonable on both sides here. It was very likely a strong-violent tornado, but nighttime complicates getting the full picture. This is going to sound strange, but we will know more when we know more.
  6. It was sort of looking like the day might have a chance to pass without much in the way of stronger tornado activity, but things have really escalated this evening.
  7. You should see click to choose files above that. If not, then 1) it's possible you have exceeded your limit or 2) I don't know
  8. Dyer tornado vid. Nothing too special here but always kind of interesting to watch videos of something so local and have the familiarity of the streets and landmarks. I drive past this park sometimes.
  9. It is both sides of Hart Street... west and east of there if RC is lurking and wants to pass it on to his colleagues. The damage I'm seeing is lower end type stuff... have not personally come across significant structural damage.
  10. Driving around Dyer looking for damage... there's an area off of Hart Street around Schmidt Drive that has some decent tree damage. Can't get a good sense of how long it is because police are blocking the area but it appears to be fairly narrow and defined from what I was able to see.
  11. Got drilled with hail trying to get to the southern end of the Dyer storm. Didn't make it in time..
  12. Storm on the Will/Cook county border is getting the look.
  13. Can sort of tell where the better threat will be
  14. Ugly sky to my w/nw and wind has picked up significantly in last 5 minutes.
  15. Looks like they are not continuing the tornado warning for areas farther east.
  16. In theory we should know fairly quickly if something is dropping with the southern Chicago metro cell, given where it is/tracking toward and it's not a messy squall line. Environment still not the greatest there in terms of instability. Hearing faint/distant tornado sirens (not at home currently).
  17. May consider a quick play on that cell especially if it looks like it will dip into northern Lake county IN.
  18. Is it me or is the northeast IL storm turning a little more right (can't tell for sure because I can't loop right now).
  19. Warning update now mentions tennis ball size hail for the northeast IL cell.
  20. Very little surface based instability in the area presently though, so tornado threat *should* remain small with that one.
  21. Will be interesting to see if the stuff by Lasalle can go severe eventually or if we'll have to wait for more development.
  22. Even LOT was skeptical about the northward placement per the overnight afd. Tornado threat is not zero for Cook, but I think about the southern/western half of the county could have a higher risk than farther north.
  23. I think you're right to have some concern about perhaps too much storm coverage. If it doesn't knock down the tornado potential then it could at least make it a bit messy for chasing. How long it takes to transition to cluster/MCS is a question.
